No they just launched the mobile site which I believe is the reason for the couple of times it has gone off line.

Most double posts are from bad connections but if that is a mobile site related problem please post it here so it can get fixed

It's a little off topic, but the new mobile site is amazing! It makes using the forums on my phone SO much better.

It looks and feels awesome. There are still a few bugs to work out though.

Well, I've just ordered it. Can't wait to hear for myself. Will post some impressions of the headphones once I burn them for at least 100 hours.

Jay, almost sure you will wont need even an hour to find them better than those deluxes and that this are not hyped phones.

I'm gonna bet that as soon as you plug them in you'll be why did I like the Superluxes so much? You'll trade a bit of the brightness and stage for a better overall balance with a fuller lower end. you'll still have all the resolution in the JVCs in a more portable package.

@geko95gek  a bit more comfortable than the stock pads. However, they make my ears hot after using 45-60 minutes.

I really am a newbie when it comes to circumaural open headphones. I listened to the HD558 for a total of 5 minutes at futureshop. They sounded wonderful, with a lovely open soundstage. But, I came away thinking that even though the S500's have a much smaller soundstage, the SQ coming out of the S500 was very comparable. But, take this with a grain of salt, as I haven't been able to A/B them.

I performed some non-scientific, A/B testing of the HA-S500 and the HD-650. The '650 was the winner, in my opinion, although the S500 acquitted itself admirably. They do have a smaller soundstage and made my ears very sore at first.

Including price as a factor, the S500 is a clear competitor, even if it's hard for me to compare a $75 headphone with a $500 headphone. Even so, it's worth every penny of its price and, personally, I recommend it.

Gonna throw this video in here to showcase the S400/S500 dynamics and transient response: Use 720p!  Benny Greb is such a master of expressive, creative and dynamic, groovy playing.

but I do not think spending all that even a headphone ... wanted to know if the hd 518 and hd 558 can be better than the s500

I'd be incredibly surprised if they don't beat S500.
