Hmm.

Tom.

Blaspheme........... You are about to get your jvchd25pp membership card yanked.... wink.gif

Yea, really tho, it is nice people can really tune these fairly easily for a few bucks. I suppose that could hold true for just about any can but these seem to have the most success/options.

OMG guys, I went on a hiatus from head-fi after my satisfaction with the JVC FXT90 IEMs...

and now THIS just when I was looking for a nice portable!

Someone who has head both (ericp10?) please tell me how the FXT90s and S500s compare in sound signature??

FXD80=$110   Try out a FX40. Fantastic but requires 200 hours of serious burn in.

While I wait and wait for my S500's, I thought I would do as you said and try out the FX40. I got them at FutureShop (Canada). They were normally $39 but $10 off so $29. Even though I am not really an iem kind of guy, for $29, I couldn't think of any reason not to try them out. I have some older Skullcandy crappy iems, and some Samsung Galaxy iems (not as crappy). But they always fall out of my ears, don't isolate well, don't sound great, and are generally annoying. My initial impressions of the FX40 though is that I really like how they fit, and they isolate very well, and they sound is pretty good! I find them somewhat treble happy and somewhat lacking in bass (compared to my awesome modded ksc75's lol!), but possibly the burn in will help with that? Regardless, they are easy to listen too and sound quite good (and will only get better with burn in). So for the price they are definitely keepers. Thanks!

And because I didn't want to be left out of the party, I also got the clip zip. Sadly though, the jack seems whack. Depending on how I jiggle it, I get either the left channel or the right channel. So I'll have to return it and try out another clip. It will be quite interesting to see how it compares to my Samsung Galaxy S2 with PowerAmp app (which to me sounds quite good).

On pad rolling/changing, I was bored and the newly arrived S400 & 500 reminded my ears of the pain JVC portables are capable of.

So I decided to see if I could make it over ears without any significant modding, behold! HM5 pleather pads wrapped over the stock pads.

Fully sealed, could have been made better by stitching/closing the inner circle of the HM5 pleathers by 5-10mm smaller.

Results? These are now officially the most comfortable headphones I've ever had on my head. Ever.

How is the sound with those huge pads?

I would say roughly the same, with a tad bit more seal.

I can't really compare with and without since my ears refuse to wear the JVC portables stock for longer than 10 minutes. I'd have sore ears that last nearly half an hour if I do so.

Yeah you can get them for 17 bucks with free slow shipping. Use a facebook fan coupon knocks 5% off the listed price.

Are you referring to mp4nation? Funny how they sell only one pad at a time and not a entire set, strange. Any other places you might care to link?

Yeap thats where I get them from. For a pair, just place order for 2.

I think as far as HM5 pads go, that is the only site I know of to get them for a good price.

Free shipping in my experience arrives less than 2 weeks. I've had one order arrive within the same week before so YMMV.

Alternatively you could hunt down the Fischer FA-003 pleathers, they're the same.

LoL's why I got this feeling this S500 thread is gonna turn into a pad on pad party from now on. I wish I got this much lovin' when I posted my mod, so jelly. ha  tongue_smile.gif

I remember that person with that pokemon dragon avatar also said he did a pad on pad thing, but did not reply when I asked him which pads he used. I hope this mod does get some more love/ push behind it, cuz all my 3 sets of S400s are coming in and no more pads to use. LMAO.  Gonna try my monoprice DJ headphone pads when S400s arrives to see if I have some luck. biggrin.gif

Nope, never had my 2 clip+s crash on me, or ever had a hanging updating media thing as well. So I guess I am lucky. Maybe achmedisdead can help you doc regarding this matter, he seems to be very knowledgeable about this clip thing.

edit: hey you'll think these pads might work for a pad on pad mod? Looks promising as well.....

IINM those have a slightly larger diameter than the HM5/003 pleathers so stitching/closing up the inner diameter of the pad is in order if you want it to fit(or seal well).

I bought a bunch of HM5 pads because they literally fit anything. From cheapo headphones to Denons.

Now for anyone who is curious, the HM5 pads actually offset the pressure from the stock pads on your ears.

Instead of resting on your ears, the stock pad now rest on the larger ones. Driver distance to/from the ear should be the same.
