Using My Fire Phoenix and my HA-S500 w/ATH velours. This track just jumped to another dimension for me. Lol..
I forgot to mention another aspect of the ATH velours. They are almost circumaural on my ears as they are 1/4inch wider in diameter. HD25 and the ATH velours, both of them give different flavor to the sounds a 2 for 1. That has to be a first for me. A headphone with 2 sound signatures. The ATH velours does make the headphone sound much more expensive.. With the little foam pieces inserted it is just right. Sorry to take your idea there epithetless. It seems to work . Just takes a slight edge off the highs. Great find Cute..

After reading Jokers review on the fx40 and fxd80, i am almost sure this phones gets at leats a 7.5. The sound way better than the htf600 wich had a score over 7. Maybe 8?
Anyways, i am happy with this phones.

You gotta understand the guy hears high end earphones all day long and the sound signature on the FX40 and FXD80 is not his cup o tea for certain..I find the FX40 superior to all previous cheapos even the MP8320 but we all have our differences in what we all like. Joker included. He is doing a great job with all of them earphones but I was thinking if I was in his shoes it would be tough to judge sub 100 earphones after hearing and owning some of the best the industry has to offer..
We all hear different and he is no exception..I think if I had access to the buffet he does, the FX40 and FXD80 is just a side dish more than anything. His score on the FXD80 is somewhat fair I suppose but the FX40 to me is in the 8s. There is nothing in the price range that comes close to them. Especially after some big time burn in. Which wasn't mentioned at all. Which also leaves me with the idea that he didn't burn them in all that great.. The way he describes them it sounds like he didn't burn them in all that good. Oh well it is what it is.
Edited by Dsnuts - 9/6/12 at 6:33pmpost #1090 of 65619/6/12 at 7:07pmJust received the HA S400.
I'm shocked that they sounded that good right out of the box ! I recall that my HA S500 needed at least 50 hrs before they sounded decent enough for listerning to a whole album.
My mind is saying that a 30mm driver cannot match the sonic capabilities of a 40mm driver yet my ears are straining to hear the advantage of the S500 over it's sibling S400.
I was so stroked, I tooks a whole lot of pictures and was about to post them here, then realised it would be OT and diluting this great thread on the S500 by DSnuts.
I decided the S400s are good enough to have their own thread so I started my very first thread with them JVC HA S400.

after using the 3580 all day i switched to my fx40,and even that i admit that i like the 3580 over the fx101, in my opinion they are no match to the fx40. Maybe i should buy my 4th set of 8320, but i was never so impressed with those, maybe its not my sound signature or its fitment problems, but after buying 3 of those and all kind of tips, even comply tips, i dont see or hear how can they better than the fx40. Not even close.

Quote:8.7 isn't bad for the FXD80 ranking, although I would give it a 9 in sound.

Hey guys,
I've transplanted the S500 driver to the S600 quite a while ago and didn't have the time to update here with pics or impressions.
In summary, the S500 in S600 body were okay, roughly the same sound sig but much more closed in compared to stock.
Comfort wasn't better for me either as the S600 was barely "over-the-ears" for my ears.
So....
A pair of Brainwavz pleather cushions
Canare cable
Philips SHP2000
Fully disassembled SHP2000 with drivers and cables discarded.
S500 drivers, welcome to your new home.
Bare twisted Canare star quad cable here. Soldered to the driver and sound tested to be good.
Discard stock velour pads (they're horrible and uncomfortable...) and fit on the Brainwavz pads.
