Hey, at least the D600 fits awesome now! (I'm wearing them backwards, with the cables reversed).

As far as sound, hmm, not sure what to think quite yet. The bass is simply out of control on some music.

Perhaps an "audiophile XB700" would be a good comparison. Luckily, I've also got that headphone, so I'll compare later.

I thought so too. I only bought them for the comfort, but was shocked during my first listen. The D600 on the other hand, knocked me out of my chair with it's bass.

Ah, basing this off price? Did you forget we're in audio? Not to mention, one is obviously geared toward bassheads, and one aims for a more balanced sound.

I obviously shot myself in the foot by even bringing up the AE2 in a thread geared toward the D600. Especially when it's, well, BOSE of all brands. Bad luck, bad timing, and now I can see an angry mob of skeptics forming. I don't play the brand game, nor do I play the price game. I'm simply just giving some impressions on what I'm hearing at the moment between two closed headphones I happened to get at the same time. Make no mistake, the D600 isn't at all bad. In fact, I'd take it's sound over the AE2 if it's bass was under control. The AE2's angled drivers is messing with the presentation a bit, giving it a slightly misaligned focus but at the same time, it sounds kind of interesting. The AE2 is easily more balanced than the D600 at the moment, yet the D600 obviously has the "technical advancements" card up it's sleeve. I guess if one listened to bass oriented music, the D600 would be about one of the best choices there is, as it's one of the only headphones, perhaps the only headphone, I've heard that has a pretty good midrange, despite it having such a bombastic bass. Of course, I'll give them both plenty more head time, not to mention proper burn in. I'll source swap too, to see if I see any changes.

Right now, I'll be comparing the XB700 to the D600.

You know, the AE2 really doesn't sound that bad. If their headband was bulkier, it'd be an option at its price point if you're not looking for an accurate sound. They're more balanced than the AE1 that came before them, and are still a rather fun listen.

Hearing that the D600 has a nice midrange is reassuring though.

it has good subbass like D7K or just bolted bass?

im lost with the pricing! denon ah d7100 is indeed sold out at amazon but when i put it on shopping cart it charges MSRP at $1199 and not $960 as solidsnake4119 reported earlier and so is with the ah d600 is at $499.

The prices have been bumped back up to retail pricing.

Doing multiple bass sweep tests, I've confirmed it sounds very similar to the XB700.

Uh oh. Perhaps it'll measure more like the XB700 than the D7000 (low frequency wise). If not, color me surprised.

With music, the D600 has more definition to it's bass than the XB700, yet both have a very similar quantity. The midrange and treble are very apparently brought forward when listening to the D600 in comparison. I can easily see these as a more audiophile oriented upgrade to the XB700, a "proper" XB700 if you will. Wish I could compare to my old D2000's and Pro 900's, but from memory, I simply cannot remembering them having THIS much bass. Best that some dedicated bassheads chime in.

They raised the prices back to retail.

5.5 hours in, and the bass on the 7100 is still more than I expected (and want). It may be extended pretty low, but it is definitely boosted above flat. Sounds great if you really want to hear the bass on a particular song.The rest of the Freq spectrum seems pretty desirable to me, enough mids and not overly bright. Sounds more closed in to me than the D2000, or it could be the bass just overwhelming things.

Physically, they look and feel smaller than the previous gen. The clamping force is still inadequate, especially for portable use (not me). I don't have a small head. They are quite comfortable, though the angle to my ears just barely works (unlike the SRH1840, which only works if I put them on backwards).

TRS 3,5mm jacks should work just fine, so getting slim cables should be no problem. There are only two wired sections to a TS cable, and either way, they should fit right into TRS for wiring where signal gets to all parts of the circuit.

Hi guys,

I have been reading on the forum for a while as I was looking at getting my first "proper" headphones. I singed up now as I thought the below might be interesting for anyone who isn't aware.

I had decided on the D2000 after they just ran out of stock everywhere and have just ordered a pair of D600 from B&H. As I am in Australia, I have to wait until Tuesday minimum to finally get my hands on the headphones. Feels like a very long time! ;)

As with some items, B&H's price is actually different when you place the order than what is advertised. :D The advertised price is $499 but in the check out screen it shows as $400 with the note that their price is lower than the minimum price at which they can advertise it. I haven't checked the D7100 but can imagine there might be a saving as well.

Updated impressions. Last ones for the day.

As of now, I have 10 headphones on my desk. I wanted to do a quick sampling of each one just to get a better feeling for all of their sounds compared to each other and also my more established pairs. The D600 was the last pair of the rotation. To my surprise, they actually have the most amount of treble compared to everything else I've got at the moment. Definitely, without a doubt, it's sound signature is reminiscent to the D2000 and Pro 900. I'd say perhaps the bass of the Pro 900 and the mids and treble of the D2000. Beyond that, I find it pretty interesting at how different these sound after listening to everything else I've got. From now compared to my out-of-box impression, bass doesn't seem AS bad anymore (yet still too much), but midrange and treble are definitely worse than before. Bass is still pretty annoying with anything that isn't specifically dedicated to bass, and the midrange/treble can mess up some vocals (sounds a bit shallow/thin and has a zing to it). Treble does indeed have sibilance on some songs. Overall, better than the XB700? Um, I'd actually take the XB700 instead, even though it's not quite as "advanced" sounding. I like the presentation of the XB700's treble far more than the D600, as it's not fatiguing and the vocals have proper weight to them. NOTE, while at one time I was a huge fan of the D2000 and Pro 900, my most recent pairs of both were a major let down due to my significant change in preference to sound signature. I simply don't like V-shaped sound anymore, and the D600 is exactly that. So perhaps it would be best to take users with more credibility in the art of this sound more seriously than me, because quite apparently, I'm not a fan. Glad that has been firmly confirmed now.

I'll make comments is anyone asks, but I won't post further impressions. I'm out. I'm forgetting this is an appreciation thread and not a discussion thread.
