Wow Craigster75, You and I do have rather different tastes. My apologies for the past few weeks telling you to wait, wait, wait, till the various brands and models to be released on the market. But I understand your requirements more now.

I really have no idea why, but I've just placed an order for a D7100. Yet another expensive headphone is really the last thing I need, but then again I always was intrigued by the higher-end Denons.

Once I get them I'll write a short comparison between the D7100, the HD600 & the HD800 if anyone's interested.

Don't do that, it tells more about you than about the PRO900.

Comparing denons and the HD650 is difficult at best, unless you have an amp like the Gilmore Dynalo (wire with gain) because from I figure they both want different things from their amps.

K550 are excellent ONLY FOR MOVIES and isolation. They have a resonance in the upper mids - which is nasty. Unfinished AKG at its best.

Yeah I agree, Craigster75's impression may be  bit hyped, or more to say to his tastes. Does not mean everyone will agree. I probably won't like them. Not now anyway.

I completely agree with you about the Pro 900.  It is bass heavier, but the Denon nails the mids and highs perfectly compared to the harsh and tinny "nails on a chalkboard" highs on the Pro 900.  I burned-in overnight and am already picking up a more neutral, smoother sound with tighter bass.  Woke, up, skipped the coffee and  three S's; went straight for my Ipod and D600.

When you said the Denon was muddy and I listened to them I thought the same thing :)  No apologies for waiting, always good to see what is coming around the corner.  I still preordered the M-100 and I really look forward to comparing those.  I must say that I feel better about Denon as a company based on how professionally they handled the launch of their new line in comparison.

The bass quantity on the D600 will be fine for non-bassheads, some might even say too much, but I wish they provided more.  The bass falls a little short of the "WOW" bass you hear with the PRO900, Q40 and PRO700MK2.  The D600 might be slightly more lacking in subbass compared to midbass.  However, comparing the whole package, I believe the D600 is a league above the others mentioned.  Vocals shine on the D600 without going supernova.  In the old stranded on a deserted island scenario and being able to only choose one pair of headphones, it would be the D600.

I found the D400 for $200 yesterday and figured, why not?  So I have them coming too and will evaluate their self-described "brutile bass".

OK, I don't think I wanna sacrifice the bass at this point since I listen mostly to hardstyle these days where bass is like 60% of the focus of the music, it's not about the strength necessarily but the sound of it as a hardstyle kick is very complex structed of different bass elements, I've found just M-Audio Q40 together with ZO2.1 a good replacement for a somewhat quality subwoofer setup, the Q40 + ZO2.1 has the right amount of bass for me, don't think I can settle for less, it would take out the drive from this music.

Gotta love this hobby, sounds like $600 isn't a big deal to spend on some headphones. :P

Maybe you should try some of the old denons they are good for that sort of music. D2000/5000/7000

What I've read, not satisfying enough bass for my standards (more like lack of snappy "attack", it's too slow and soft, probably lack of midbass for my taste), basicly I don't want less bass impact than currently and the Denons are slightly too bright for my taste (perhaps D5000 is ok), the Denons would be a downgrade in that regard. I think M100 is probably gonna be more up my alley.
