I saw this on Reddit so no, I am not trying to get you to pledge anything. Just watch the video. So please, don't think I am some dude trying to get money pledged to it...the video is there and the page has info on it.

I generally look at kickstarter projects with a "meh" face but after watching the video. I was entirely...just a bit awestruck really.

People that were amazed by the demo include:

  • Mark Bolas and the team at USC's MxR lab

  • John Carmack and Zenimax Media

  • Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski and Epic Games

  • David Helgason and Unity

  • Gabe Newell, Michael Abrash and Valve

Who could suspect Panda-san of anything like that? wink.gif

Thanks for sharing! Not a gamer, but I'm very intrigued!

I was just meh...until I saw what they were preaching and I was very.....very intrigued more or less......although I don't want body damage or feeling as playing Amnesia or another horor game would be deadly....

I don't watch horror movies for a reason. If I got this and tried playing some zombie game, I don't think I'd sleep for weeks.

The unit fits well with compact "gaming" headsets...but how will it fit with Q701's..or even HD800's....hmm.

Looks interesting and seeing the people behind this it might actually get off the ground. It will be interesting to see what they can do with it in the future.

And if you're going to play horror games with this you must really hate yourself.

Already passed that last month, now at vol4. But I'm reading first part of vol8 now since next episode of the anime will be based on that.

I hope you know what 16.5 is hehehehehe. The author wrote it in his spare time as something personal but it was leaked by accident or something...it is basically H in novel form

orz of course I know...

edit: btw I couldn't find the original version for that part, only chinese translated one... T T

edit2: from what I know, that chapter was used to be available on the writer's website before the novel published as printed copy

Hopefully this VR kit won't fry your brains..

This reminds me of that time over a decade ago, when I went to some PC LAN gaming place and got to play Quake with a Forte VFX-1 headset. It was pretty cool at the time, but looking up the tech specs today reveals one incredibly dated piece of hardware, with resolution below 320x240 per eye.

It's about time someone set out to build an affordable HMD with 6DoF head-tracking, ever since the eMagin Z800 underwent some stupid high price spike years ago. 1280x800 effective resolution is also very nice in a market dominated by 800x600 or 1024x768 effective resolution at even higher price points.

Also very nice is that they didn't bother to include some sort of cheap sound system, so we can all use our favorite headphones. It doesn't look like the headband will really interfere with a headphone's fit, either.

The only question that remains is how comfortable it is to wear for long periods of time. It's obviously not very useful as an immersion tool if you can't stand to wear it after a while.

As a friend pointed out, it looks basically like ski goggles with screens and electronics mounted on, so hopefully it will not be too uncomfortable.
