hmm what kind of threads did he go on to make?

Well not so much afterwards, more around the same time or earlier.  But at one point he created a string of threads that pretty much all revolved around the same theme:  I like Beats, tell me how good Beats are, I don't want to hear about other headphones, just Beats.  I'm pretty sure one of the threads got locked (don't remember if it got deleted) because it was obvious trolling.  WiR3D was in that thread and he almost got into it with the OP.  I'm not saying he's a bad dude, just that a lot of his threads were similar in the above regard - and threads like that tend to cause a bit of trouble here.

Ahh, one could only hope.  Still, no harm in taking precautions - a stitch in time saves nine - and all that jazz.

I'm quite surprised this got serious responses. I honestly thought this was a troll thread at first.

He's either really a 14 year old kid from Finland who wants "headphones with swag to pull ladies" (picture it), or an adult with a funny sense of humor. Either way, the responses are way too serious.

Go into a random store and buy the cheapest oversized shiny offbrand headphones they have... Swag for less $$$
Then in 2 years when you start to roll your eyes when people say "swag", you'll be able to throw them away guiltlessly

Because these are all the brands that audiophiles despise. It'd be like going to a Hot Rod club and asking, "Should I get the Prius, the Volt, the Taurus or the Yaris?"

And Bose, Beats, Skullcandy and Soul all have their place. It's just not on this forum. When we told you about what we, as audiophiles, consider to sound good, you kinda brushed it off. No point in asking audiophiles for recommendations if you know you're not going to like what we have to say.

I don't mean to offend or anything, but in our opinions, there are better headphones you could be buying. That's the opinion you're going to get from just about everyone on this forum. If that's not a reality that you wish to accept, then just don't ask us for recommendations and buy whatever you want. Go to town! No one's stopping you from getting what you want, and you don't have to rationalize it to us. Just know that we, as a community, are going to largely disagree if you say that any of the headphones you mentioned are an outstanding deal in your price range.

yeah, i know people on this forum will tell you better options, but if i person specificaly asks about beats or something, and he dosnt care about any other suggestions, why cant people just tell him what beats to get or soul, bose or whatever?

example:

should i get the bose oe2 or beats solo

(answers from most people are like this):  neither both are complete crap, get the senninheiser whatever or shure whatevers

Why cant people just tell him which one is better, and then maybe make a suggestion instead of not even saying anything about the headphones they suggested, lie they might end up getting the terrible beats because he never got any serious answers saying the difference between the 2

but.... thats just the truth.
and yeah probably a word about the 2 suggested would help. a little.

LOL, no one's stopping you bro!

But seriously, it's not like people here exist to be his personal data repository.  Nobody owes him anything.  Everyone that answers here does so from a selfless inclination to help.  So in the end he can accept the answers given - or not.  But for him to demand that people answer in a very specific way (and not be allowed to vocalize their own related opinions) is quite frankly, rude.

EDIT:  Hey ilikedonkeys39, sorry if that came out the wrong way.  I've just run into the OP in a few other threads, and the way things were phrased kind of left a sour taste in my mouth.  I stand by what I said above, but no offense meant to you or anything.  Also, I'm cranky today.

im not saying that people shouldnt suggest other headphones im just saying, many of the forums i read through where people specificaly say something like beats studios or solos the answers arnt very helpful like "Troll", "dont get beats" "they suck" ect.. those arnt helpful

i also see many threads where they dont say anything about the beats or bose or anything, they just say dont buy it or whatever, they dont state a actual legit reason to why there are better options out there

ps i wasnt offended at all by your reply

I would argue that's actually helpful. Cause y'know, it's true. At least until you get to the beats pros, but then it's not worth it, because they are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to overpriced. It would steer them towards a better choice for their money. I know that these two headphones are a lot different in style, but for the same price as the studios, which is probably the beats line's worst offender in terms of price to performance, you can get the Beyerdynamic DT880 Pros.

I agree.  While the suggestion is incredibly useful, the lack of information as to why isn't particularly helpful.

I agree here as well.  Likewise not very enlightening.

But here's the thing, this guy is NOT your average guy with a question about Beats (or the like).  If you read through some of his other threads, you'll see what I mean.  He definitely seems to have an agenda beyond getting a recommendation.  If he wanted Beats (or the like) as much as he seems to indicate in his posts, he'd already have bought them and moved on.  But he seems hell bent on getting some kind of validation here for his views.  Again, feel free to check out the OP's other threads and you'll see what I mean based on his own words - not mine.

Cool, definitely no offense meant.  It was unexpectedly hot today, and I get cranky when it gets hot.

I agree with what you, and warren, have been back-and-forth on. But I think the reality is, the majority of people who are deriding those products likely haven't heard them - it's popular to rip on the cool kids after all. And all that. I'm not saying that if you sent out the Beats headphones to all of Head-Fi that you'd see unanimous positive response in threads though. The other problem, methinks, is fake headphones tainting the pool - there are A LOT of fake Beats, Bose, etc headphones on the market, and they are very common. IME fake headphones always sound horrible. Again, I'm not trying to excuse anything, just some more insight.

Regarding the legitimate products, they're unpopular for a reason - they cost a whole lot, are not very durable, and have other comparative flaws relative to their competition. In the light of what that money should buy you, it's not hard to see why most people get up in arms about it (because, and I may be off base here, but I'm assuming that most people on Head-Fi are not billionaire playboys, so wasting $300-$500 is not a "oh well" and ensuring that the money is spent well is pretty relevant to most people). I agree that the vitriol and derision directed at people innocently asking questions is somewhat disheartening, but that's part of the problem with a forum-based system - to the new guy's view, they're getting their face bitten off, but to the veteran, they're the millionth person this week to ask the same exact question and expect the same exact answer.

I think it's the simple fact that you're buying "just OK" headphones which have been jacked up to audiophile prices via a "gangster rapper endorsed" marketing gimmick.

Some people will pay a few hundred extra $$$ to be "gangster rapper endorsed", but I think people who take audio equipment seriously will just feel like their intelligence is being insulted and react with hostility or satire.

I tried them out and since it was quite brief I don't know how detailed I can be. I'm not going to lie and say that I sat down with them for several hours and analyzed them.
That said, to me they sounded like any old $30 JVC/Panasonic/Sony headphones you find in Wal-Mart. I guess they sounded "fun".
You might love them, but I mean for $300, you could have some of the nicest headphones in the world instead of effectively buying $50 headphones and then making a $250 donation to Dr. Dre's lowrider collection.
