Any fix for split cable? [Etymotics HF5]

The wire got wrapped around a pole while I was on the bus and the HFs got ripped right out of the jack. After inspecting it for damages, I found that the cable got split, exposing the wire. I can only use it while it's in a certain position that doesn't bend the wire now. Is there a possible fix for this or do I have to get a completely new set? I'm strapped for cash, so I hope there's a cheap fix.

Also, I'm from Singapore, if that helps anything.

I have seen it suggested to take that kind of repair to a computer shop.

Should be pretty easy for them to do.

Or, if you are handy, you could just buy a new connector and solder it up yourself.

I'm quite new to all this. What will they do at the shop, and what can I do?

Replacement plugs are available at Radio Shack.

Cut the cable above the damaged area and solder in the new plug.

Should take about ten minutes.

Good Luck, Jim

Thanks for the reply! Will it be expensive, and is there a guide to do this?

If the wire's intact, you can use liquid electrical tape or heat-shrink tubing.
