I thought it was the opposite(?)- Paul McCartney saying to John Lennon: I don't care and will carry on doing my thing.

That's what I meant. McCartney is saying, "Not only will I bring the cheese, I am the king of cheese! You can't call my songs cheesy, because I am capable of taking cheese to a whole 'nother level! Don't criticize my song writing, or I'll write something like this and my cheese will be played in every elevator and office building for decades to come. I know it's cheese and I'm reveling in the cheese!"
 
He was so in touch with his inner cheese that he actually made a statement arguing that true cheese is an art form.
 
You gotta respect the man for that.

Another one of my favorites and severely under-rated IMHO....really comes through in this cover...
