Where to try different IEMs in LA

Thread Starter

I am in the Los Angeles area and would like to bring my audio sources and try three or four different pairs of high-end IEMs such as the Westone 4r and the Shure SE535. I have read all of the reviews on this forum for these two IEMs and several others and even though I respect the opinions of the expert folks on this site, everyone's perception of audio perfection is different. The only way for me to decide is to do a side by side comparison with my own audio sources.

Can someone please provide information on audio stores in the LA area (even as far away as San Diego is ok) that sell high-end IEMs so that I can go there an do the comparison testing.

My apologies for the noob post if this question has been asked before.

Welcome to the Forum.

I wish we had a place like that on the East Coast.

We are so behind the times.

Hope it works out for you.

I'm not sure; maybe the best thing for you to do would be to schedule a meet with fellow members in the LA area?

Don't know of any place that will do that with IEM's off hand, I imagine most places would see that as not very hygenic. I would start calling up privately owned stores that sell high end IEMs in your area and asking if you can test the IEM's. You might get lucky and get the store owner who may have gotten into the business and owns a pair and willing to let you test it out or something along those lines. But having a publicly available model I don't see as happening due to hygene (though an alcohol swap will help with that) and due to being it small and easy to steal since there is almost no way to properly secure it.

But good luck, I hope you find a place that does this. If so tell us.

I was able to try out Shure SE215's at a Guitar Center. Maybe some will have the higher ones, but be warned, after buying the SE215 they would not take them back when I decided they were not for me.

I'm nowhere near California but a store that carries those type of earphones (especially the brands like Westone and Shure) is an airport shop called InMotion. There's one in LAX. Here's the number (310) 641-3213

Hope the store is not in a concourse like the one in my town's airport. If you get to hear both brands let us know how you like them (or rather how they compare).
