Amp recommendations for Fostex TH900? - Page 15

the post was very helpful, is there a list of amps that everyone agrees is good say like the Bakoon, once Insha'Allah I have the TH 900 I will test the Auralic Taurus as there is a local dealer for them, however very limited HiFi equipment in the UAE so testing and demos not possible for almost all products so spending up to 2000 USD or more is difficult with out any kind of demo

Schitts Asgard 2   249 USD
Auralic Taurus      1700 USD
Fostex HPA A8C  1500 USD

any direction will be greatfully recieved
Remove both Bursons (they're overrated). The Asgard 2 is a tremendous value for 250. I own an Asgard 2 w/ Bifrost Uber USB with my TH900s. I would also add the Grace Design m903 and Woo Audio WA7tp. I have an AURALiC Taurus on loan right now and it's a great amp too.

I used both Burson HA160DS and Oppo HA-1 and imo, Burson gives me more sub-bass and warmer sound signature than Oppo. However, Oppo has better DAC and much more clear in every attribute.

If you say Burson Soloist is overrated then I feel both Auralic Taurus and Fostex HPA A8C are also overrated with respect to the given price.

I will say best value for the money is Audio GDs IMO.

I haven't heard the HA160DS but I have heard the Soloist and I felt it was way overpriced for what you got (my opinion of course).  The Auralic Taurus is actually considered a great product by many reviewers and given the amount of detail and timbre that you get for the price and I would have to agree with that (of course you're welcome to disagree if you've also heard it).  Now it's reasonable to still think it's overpriced but I think if you compared it to it's higher-priced solid-state competitors it's a great value.  I haven't heard the HP-A8C so I can't comment on that.

Ah ha back to all HiFi equipment is expensive

so back to Schiits then as they have a inexpensive range

Asgard , Valhalla & Lyr one of these must be at least be reasonable with TH 900

as the other alternative is use the PC line out as i have an ASUS Mobo which

can drive headphones and wait until i can demo some of these products mentioned

in order to make up my own mind

How about Audio GD NFB6 for the similar price range ? I will get Audio GD but unfortunately I live in Canada, there is heavy duty tax and fee coming from foreign country made there.

The Asgard 2 sounds great with my TH900s and Bifrost Uber USB.

Have you tested the other Schiits range apart from Asgard 2 as I can squeeze a few more

dollars if the performance justifies the additional cost

I haven't spent enough time with any of the other Schiit amps to recommend/not recommend them but I have read good things about the Lyr 2, in general.

Say no to Burson! :)   It sounds great on a number of headphones in my opinion but TH900 wasn't one I liked with it. YMMV.

I have the Burson Conductor, essentially a Soloist from an amp standpoint, and it sounds great, to me, with the TH900.  My advice...try before you buy if at all possible and make your own decision.  Everyone has different likes and dislikes.

Good point, sir!

would love to try a few, however not going to be possible in the UAE, except for Auralic Taurus and Naim Headline
