Are the Sennheisers HD598's worth the money? - Page 4

Turns out I got an OK price on 598 so am now qualified to comment on dif between 595 and 598. I also happen to have KSC75 sitting right here beside me too so know for a fact you are FOS.

Anyway, dif between 595 and 598 is a subtle difference and nothing massive so all those claiming 598 are way better than 595 are also FOS. 598 are slighty better (clearer bass) but not worth the upgrade price if one already owns 595. I shoulda held out for HD650 IMO.

I think the HD598s would be unstoppable on the market if they were $199. Mine were like $270 after tax and shipping fees, and I was happy to pay that much. I know people can buy them cheaper at certain retailers, but I don't trust getting things cheaper when at the major retailers they're more. Makes me think they might be a knock-off.

After a week of listening its a definite Yes from me.
Clear, clean and smooth. No colouration, no excess bass just faith full reproduction. This is good. What more is there?
Ok a freightning price for someone who only ever bought $25 at trade price and thought they were great.

HD598 comfort is second to none as far as i can see. Comfortable for long listning sessions and not excessive leakage to keep the wife and neighbours happy. Seems to be reasonable drive from the HD sound card (part of gigabyte motherboard) and certainly loud enough at this point for me. Very happy camper.

Any opinions on how the HD598 compares to the DT990 32ohms?  I just purchased the DT990 and it is a comfortable headphone but not too impress with the sound.  I have about 20 hours of burn in on it so maybe that is the case but was wondering if I should get the HD598 or not.

You need to explain what you don't like about the 990 and what sort of sound you're after.

I have heard both for many hours and to my ears the 598 is the better headphone. I would call it a slight upgrade in clarity and detail. Just because you don't agree with people doesn't make them full of ****, everyone's ears are different.

I am newbie so it is kind of difficult for me to explain.  I guess, to me the DT990 sounds a little boring and lack of bass.  I wonder if it is because I don't have a desktop amp.  How is the bass on the HD598?  It is present, forward, or recess?

I don't really like their feel, they don't feel like a $200 headphone, at all. Nice sound though.

If by feel you mean comfort? They are one of the best feeling headphones ever...I can wear them for hours IMO...BTW listening to the shins port of morrow album with these is heavenly

Nah, the plastic, feel very cheap. And really? I guess I'll have to go back to my BB to listen to them. Not sure if they'll best my DT880 though
