Can't believe I'm going to say this but...I want to downgrade from my UM2s...I love them to death, and I baby them so much. I just don't think they're a good fit for my lifestyle, I mean I usually abuse all my stuff, and well, I don't want to be carrying around these things in college. Is there any good downgrade from them? Something that I won't completely hate? I'm just interested in looking at a cheaper, possibly more durable option. Basically I want the UM2, without the UM2 price. I love the durability of these things, and they're really light and really comfortable(with foam tips; don't do good with prolonged usage of the silicon tips). Maybe something with chest-thumping bass? Or something good for punk/rock/metal? Durability, price, and the sound signature vs my UM2s are the factors I'm looking at.
Or do you think I'm exaggerating and I'll do fine with these on campus and places?
Please tell me your opinion!
As for what I thought of the UM2s: Loved the clarity and hated it. Loved that I could hear every string on the guitar being struck, but hated how it brought out all the imperfections too. The bass was amazing but not too intense, it was kind of the right mix. The soundstage was great, could really differentiate all the instruments. The highs were a little harsh at times, for instance the symbols and the snare could sometimes be too overpowering. As for comfort, I could sleep with these on, they're that comfortable. They're the perfect size for my ears and overall really light and enjoyable to have on.
