I've heard much the same. However my experience is that the Lyr and HE-6 weren't made for one another. So I sold it.

I'm planning on acquiring the HE-6 again, this time driving them off speaker taps.

I'll be looking forward to your impressions of the HE-6 and Lyr pairing. It's a great can. beerchug.gif

How do you like your Mad Dogs so far and what are you using them with? Also what is your main go-to can?

I am contemplating selling off my LCD-2(It's just hard to part with). I love my MD.

It's been great fun, being one of the early adopter of Dan's mod. I had the 003 pads, loved 'em,

but am even more impressed with the 840. Comfort being improved is a serious key to the enjoyment you get out of the MD.

My go to more and more..and even more is the LCD-3. But if I can efficiently drive the HE-6,

that'll be it. I feel very strongly about the HE-6.

yea the Mad Dogs are def pretty awesome, I'm looking into getting a cable for them.

I'm banking on my Lyr being able to drive the HE-6's as I don't really have the scratch to get another amp. If you were to reaquire the HE-6's what amp would you plan to drive them with?

I am looking at maybe balancing the MD, but only if it doesn't compromise the MD sound. (mod wise)

The Lyr can drive it, meaning it won't be clipping. I just didn't feel it brought out the potential the HE-6 has and which I've heard.

I am looking at some vintage gear, but am open to any and all suggestions.

Not really looking forward to wrecking my wallet..again so soon...biggrin.gif

We'll never learn any better. Short response distortion "caused" hypothetically in this case by

the HE-6 being under-driven. (Because it's not)

If your buying a used HE-6 I would try to get one of the newer ones with silver metal parts. I thought that was a little more crisp sounding than the old model that was all black. (might have been my imagination but I don't think so)

I have been looking at used speaker amps to power the HE-6, but I'm still undecided. I like the Lyr, but I agree with you, I feel the cans are capable of MOAR. But I like the Lyr enough not to be in a rush with that.

Well I would order them direct from fangs website, would that assure I get the newer ones or is it hit or miss?

I will definitely keep that in mind. Is that like the HD650 model, the silver screen is apparently, supposedly "unveiled"?

I am in no rush either, Mjolnir is out soon, will see what that does. But I am also looking at speaker amps for a long-er term solution.

I believe he's just talking about the "risk" of buying used.

I think you'll get a new batch if you order from Headdirect, but I'm not sure of course.

Yeah, there's talk of new HD650's being better. I have an old one myself. I rarely use it, I usually prefer the Panasonic HTF600 over it.
