SONY's new 2012 Walkman Range!! - Page 12

That's the reason why I'm not going to purchase the F806 b/c the 32GB (more or less 29 GB usable memory) is very limited in my book.  I'm going to hold on to my Japanese A867 and Z1070 (both 64GB versions) and continue to use the Atrac Lossless on them.  I'm curious to why Sony won't release anything more than 32 GB in the US market?  The price of 64GB & 128 GB flash memory have come down a lot so I don't really understand what's Sony deal is.

I've actually asked them the very exact question. It came down to demand. The rep told me if they bring anything more than 16 GB, from expreince the main stream market is not interest in purchasing them and they are to a)ship them back to other regions (which means modifying the device to meet the regions regulation) or b) sell with at a reduce profit margin or in some cases with a loss.

I know it is all excuses but that is what I was told. The price of SSD is almost irrelevant to what region gets what, it comes down to the enthusiasm of the region.

I suppose if the flac files are all 24/96 yea but I was able to load over 55 albums in my sansa clip 32 gb SD card, all 16/44.1. Honestly 55 album is legit. Unless you are one of those folks who wants to have all that they have just in case due to some odd reasons they have a craving to listen to some particular song 32 GB is decent. But of course anything more than 32 GB is welcome and as I said SD card slot is always welcome.

My guess is the reason why they do not want to include SD cards is that they have th pay extra for using that feature. Also from what I have read the PCB for most walkman of similar feature are basically identical. So including SD slot means redesigning your PCB from scratch.

I for one would love to have the 32 GB (or even better the 64 GB) F walkman avaliable in Australia, but sadly it will never happened. So you folks in the US should not take that for granted.

And that reason alone will cause many buyers to look else where.  I'm a big Sony fan and want them to do well.  They will never see the same type of success like they did in the 90's unless they change their ways.  I found it quite hilarious that only the Japanese wants 64GB model and everyone else wants just 16GB.

Indeed, considering that even in Japan the 64 GB version is not price the same as itune which in terms of application feature miles ahead of walkman. And I told them the exact same thing, guess what reply I got " Hey but it doesnt sound the same as walkman". I feel that sony is confident enough that the sound quality alone is going to be the selling point of their product, however if they are hoping to carry the walkman brand by sound alone I fear that walkmans days is soon to be over :-(

The "mainstream" buyers aren't buying Walkman players here in the US anyways....they're either using their smartphones, or buying iPods, and taking budget Sansa Clips and iPod Shuffles to the gym. At least if Sony offered higher capacity models here, they'd be offering an alternative to the 64GB Touch and the Classic.

I dont think it is even out yet.

From what I have read it is basically the Z series walkman with new look and native flac support. This means that we dont need third party apps for the walkman to play flac and we get to use the walkman app which in my view is excellent. And also compared to the z series which right now has 2.3 gingerbread the new F series has ICS 4.0 from day one.

No information in regards of the flac resolution is avaliable, my guess is 16/48.

Hope that helps.

Max. 32Gb in North America/64GB in Japan only = agreement with Apple and not be sued.

It is now available for purchased in the USA.  One member already receive his unit from Sony and posted an impression that it is superior sounding to his X1060.  No surprise there given that I also prefer the sound of my Z & A over my X1060.  I don't think the F-walkman is even available in Japanese market.

Hmmmm,...no! There are no agreements between them on capacity exclusivity. Design & UI most likely,... Sony just has no faith we'll buy it,...not that the Japanese market is any better. I personally feel they'd sell 64gb players like wildfire!!! smily_headphones1.gif
