Confused by versions of the beyerdynamic dt880

i'm looking to buy a pair dt880's, but there seems to be different versions?

i'm familiar with:

2003 pro version with the flat grills on the outside of the cups

2005 premium version that comes with a leather carrying case (headband known to disintegrate into sticky mess)

2011(?) version that comes in a sealed gray box with the new leather snap-on headband cover

just wondering if there are any audible differences between the 2005 and 2011/new version as i have auditioned the 2005 versions and am set on buying a pair.

Beyerdynamic DT880

Pro 250-Ohm,

Premium 32-Ohm, Premium 250-Ohm, Premium 600-Ohm

They all need a decent headphone amplifier to sound their best.

What source(s) are you plugging headphones into?

Having owned/heard them all, except the 32 ohm version, my ranking, from most to least favorite, goes as follows Pro 250-ohm (aka DT880/2003), Premium 600-ohm, Premium 250-ohm.

Even after having owned the prestigious T1, my all-time favorite is still the Pro 250-ohm.  The Premium 250-ohm was one of the most disappointing set of headphones I've ever owned.

If ChineseKiwi was still here, he'd be in this thread saying how awesome the 600 ohm version is.

Get the latest 250 or 600 ohm premium versions. I never understood the love with the Pro models but that's just my view.
