Portable Amps sold in Singapore or Hong Kong for under $50

Heya everyone,

I'm new here at Head-Fi and I was wondering if there were any stores in Singapore or Hong Kong that sold good Headphone amps for under $50. Also, what's the purpose of using a portable amplifier?

Thanks,

There's a parts vendor in Singapore called lendmeurears (http://lendmeurears.com/), not sure if he has what you need.  In HK, I go to a place called mingo (two locations in MK), where you can test all sorts of amps/headphones.

For Singapore, you can go to http://www.stereo.com.sg/store/index.php or http://www.jaben.net/ .  both have shop front and you can drop by to try it out.

For 2nd hand portable amp, you can go to http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/http://www.xtremeplace.come2Fyabbse/index.php or  to look for ahttp://forums.vr-zone.com/bargain .

Hope this helps...

Thank you very much! The article was very informative and gave me a new insight into whether or not I need an amp!

Just to add to what Jason has posted: Stereo will have all the iBasso amps. You can even pick up a DX100 if you have that much cash. Jaben pretty much has most of the big name we discuss in HF (except iBasso), like HeadAmp, RSA, Go-Vibe, etc.

That assuming you actually need an amp, or just want to try one out. Well, you can try out on both places without buying, so bring your source and headphone there if you can and listen for yourself.

Head down to Jaben at Adelphi. They have a lot of portable amps (and desktop amps).

Here are some sub SGD50 amps I know in SG:

- Fiio E3 (SGD 10)

- Fiio E5 (SGD 28)

- Fiio E6 (SGD 38)

(Fiio amps can be found at Audio Basic and Jaben in Adelphi)

- Fireye Mini (SGD 48)

- Govibe Derringer (SGD 48)

(both are available at Jaben)

And you can also browse through vrzone and hwz forum. You can get great, but used amps at cheap prices.

Great, thanks! That's really informative and I'll take a look at Jaben. Any other places that sell headphones?

Coincidentally I've been looking for a budget amp to give some oomph to my RE-ZEROs.  Based on ClieOS's (and many others') review, I'm proud to say that today, I'm the new owner of a Fiio E6!  While it isn't nearly as sexy as the iBasso amps, it does the job and comes at just a fraction of the price.  The neutral EQ setting is perfect.  It increases bass quantity without sacrificing mids or highs, truly adding musicality.  Good luck in your search!

I was wondering about the E6 but I didn't know if it just made my headphones louder or if it actually improved sound quality. What do you think?

So thanks to the recommendation, I spent some time at Jaben and had an amazing time trying out everything! I'm wondering if I should get a Bravo Audio Ocean amp. Any thoughts?
