HifiMAN HE-5LE v. HE-500 - Page 9

I heard old vintage Yamaha CR620/820 is also very good for orthos straight from headphone out. There are few of them at ebay in your country and look is also very nice.

It should be even better if you removed 330 ohm resistors from headphone section (there are 2 already).

Havent heard them personally though.

Coming from the he-500 and going to the he-5le can I expect a decent improvement in soundstage width and depth?!

You should because the HE-5LE extend both higher and lower than the HE- 500.  For me, that translates into a better sense of 3-D space.

Please note that I no longer own either of these headphones, but now have the HE-6, which I consider a highly evolved 5LE.

If you can afford to, it is better to have both the 500 and the 5LE on hand, do the a/b and decide yourself which is better.

@pataburd the he-6 sounds like its worth saving for and I already have an amp to power them. My only thing is that I would like the bass quantity to be more than the he-500 slightly. I know that it is tighter... After researching the he6 I see the clearer choice but I can't find much information on the bass quantity.

What would you say to that?

GB,

The HE-500 are slightly warmer with more midbass prominence than the HE-6, but not as extended or balanced overall in the bass department.  If you like denser midbass and more roundedness than absolute extension, the 500 might suit you better.

You won't get more bass on the HE-6.  Instead, you will get a little more controlled, tighter bass than on HE500.  Deeper extension could be subjective.  Based on my experience and the tracks I listened to (sub bass around 30hz and under), both performed about the same but the more controlled bass on the HE-6 gave the impression of a better bass extension.  IMO, this is a false evaluation.  Personally, I prefer HE-500's bass but mid and high, HE-6 will dominate the HE500.  This impression is based on the Emotiva driving both.  :D

the graphs show the he500 to extend further but both are good at 20hz or close to it  so that is all anyone needs really. c

thanks guys just trying to weigh in the options for future prospects here. So far the he 5le or 6 or the th600 are the only ones that I think I should aim for.
