I don't think they use the same driver.  I believe others had investigated and concluded that.  Can't seem to find the link now.

This one?

Instead of spending ~$700 on a new headband, what's stopping someone from paying less money to have a better one built?

I've always thought that they could be made to one's size if one was wiling to go to one of their flagship stores to get measured, is that true?

Yes that is true.  Back in 2003-2006, one had to visit the Sony Qualia store and get measured before they can buy a Qualia.  Once the Qualia line was discontinued in 2005 (?), several headphones were sold at a deep discounted.  One senior headfi member informed me that Sony did offer to sell them at $800 each.  At one time, a used Qualia was selling b/w $900 to $1300 in the sell/trade forum.   Should have bought more then.

I'm sure you did, and it came with extra earpads, 3 headbands as well as an extra headphone stand, right?  What a deal!

Can someone tell me how to determine the size of the headband? When I bought these qualia 010's , it did not come with the original box. Also, I can't see any markings that might give me a reference.

Can do- what view(s)?

Any view would do, but an angle similar to the one in your avatar would be good.

Thanks for the picture.  That gotta be either small or medium headband.  I use a black dragon upgrade cable for mine too!  Just love love the Qualia.  Listening to Hi-rez binural tracks on Qualia is just so so nice.smily_headphones1.gif

Appreciate your feedback... and about the Black Dragon, I like it so much that I refitted my SA5K as well. The upgrade moves both HP's another notch......

Thanks Again
