I'm not a fan of the M50 either and I agree that these sound a lot better.

All the sounds just blend together to give you such a pleasurable listening experience, being punchy and detailed, super comfy too.

I'm looking forward to the open back HP200which should be released soon.

Oh yeah I had forgotten about the HP200, I will be jumping on that one as soon as it comes out. I can't believe how good this is for their first headphone and I can't wait to see what they can do with open sound!

I just got these in.  First impressions:  !!!  They sound very very good right out of the box.  Everything about them blows away the K 272 HDs I got yesterday (and am returning):  build quality, fit and finish, accessories, aesthetics, and (most importantly, of course) sound quality.  The K 272s had a lot of plastic, had okay comfort, and had a sterile, nasal sound to them.  The HP100s are super clean and detailed (but still smooth), have a good soundstage, are slightly forward in an enjoyable way, and have a unique, excellent bass response.  They remind me of the Boston speakers I have, which have great impact, but it's very clean and doesn't intrude on the other frequencies.  Very early impressions, but they are very positive.  Thanks a lot for the pointer in this direction, randomkid!

No problem, i'm glad they are finally getting some attention, they deserve it. You will enjoy them, they are comfy and unoffensive yet detailed and balanced, perfect for long listening sessions.

as i am lovin my srh940s i am still looking for a more portable alternative. which would be the compromises, i would have to take, if i would go for the hp100s?

Maybe a little less detail than the shure, bit more warmth. But not to much of a trade off I don't think. Get them and see what you think, you may even replace the Shure's with them, they are that good.

I would be interested to listen to the HP100 but don't know of any store in NYC that sells them.  I do have the DT1350: awesome sound, not so comfy.  I think I have discovered after way too many on-ear purchases that I just prefer around-ear for both better isolation and greater comfort. I've been thinking about trying my Jaycar/Brainwavz HM5 earpads on the DT1350 in a mod similar to what people have done with the JVC HA-S500/HA-S400.  But I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Shame you can't test them, they are awesome value for money, comfort and sound is excellent. In England I know there are places to test them. Try seeing if any stores sell them in New York. These are one of those headphones where whoever hears them, loves them.
