Owning both, I'd choose the SR-009 if it's the only headphone you can afford.  The Qualia is awesome, but it's more of a complimentary piece rather than a primary headphone that does everything well.

 

Qualia = absolute best ever w.r.t some sonic qualities (i.e. transients, speed, comfort), just okay in others (bass).

 

SR-009 = good overall;  not really lacking in anything, but doesn't really excel at anything in particular either.

I was kind of joking. While I'd love the buy the Qualia the 009s are in my sights are kick the crap out of everything else I've heard.

The Qualia is really an amazing headphone in its own right. It's actually my all-time favorite when it comes to electronica, as the bass extends well and is beautifully textured despite lacking a bit of quantity (for me it's just fine). The imaging and ambience that come from its ability to render space is just astounding, and if that was my primary genre I'd be perfectly happy owning the Qualia and nothing else.
