[SOLD] Joe Grado HP-1 (HP1000) foam lined cup mod.

Will Ship To: North America

I’ve been going back and forth in my mind about whether I should sell these as I really love their sound. Very neutral and smooth. I modified them and improved the sound with the foam lining mod detailed by purrin in the link below.

This is a fully reversible mod that adds a lining of foam inside the metal cups and greatly reducing the ringing around 2 kHz frequencies. What this means for the actual sound you hear is that there is no more unnatural shout or glare for some higher pitched vocals. It makes a great headphone even better, both subjectively and via measurements. It’s not subtle. (It should be noted that part of the pricey HP1i mod by Joe Grado adds a thick layer of oil inside the cups to help reduce ringing. similar concept.)

But, unfortunately, I can’t keep both these and my recently acquired LCD3 at the same time. Too much money tied into headphones at my place. I can justify one expensive headphone but not two. So my loss is your gain. The HP-1 now have to go.

The cosmetic condition is very good but not mint. The small lettering around the rings of the two cups are gone. I received these used a little while ago and around 20% of the letters were there. I find it looks better to have no letters than just a few remaining scraps so I delicately cleaned it up. The text for the polarity switches is mostly intact and the “L” and “R” text is also mostly there.

There is a tiny nick in the silkscreen on the right driver. it’s over metal and not an open driver hole so it’s not a big deal. On the left driver, the silkscreen was peeling off so I secured it back onto the grill with a few carefully applied drops of clear glue. It’s OK now but I wouldn’t try to rub it or forcefully peel it off as it would likely come off.

The flat pads are in good condition and feel solid, similar to a new set of flats I had bought form TTVJ last year. I placed them in some laundry detergent and water to soften them up a little so they are a bit more comfortable than brand new pads.

edit. the cable is the signature laboratory standard.

The leather headband is in good shape with a few very small smudged, scratched areas (about 1/8" long)

This sale includes the original box although it’s not in like new condition as you can see in the pictures. still, it’s a functional box that doesn’t look too bad for being as old as it is.

I would prefer shipping within Canada but I’ll also ship to the States. My price includes Xpresspost Canada shipping. You can add 20 for US expedited parcel or add 40 for US Xpresspost shipping.

My price does not include paypal fees but I’ll split them 50/50 with a buyer. I would prefer interac e-transfer from a canadian bank, if possible.

edit SOLD!
