Sold my MBP and got a 2012 Air. Still need an optical out. Looking for recommendations on inexpensive USB to Optical adapters. Something like this

I think I'm going to buy a used Musical Fidelity V-link, as it will give me both optical and coax

Does the MBA not have optical out of the headphone jack like all the other mac notebooks and iMacs?  I use it out of my MBP, but have not tried the air.

I'm not a Mac guy, but everything I could find on the MacBook Air says no optical out.
The Thunderport might offer better audio out (HDMI) then optical, maybe.

I have often used the optical output from my 2006 MBP which is avilable from the headphone jack as described. All i needed to do was purchase a mini jack to toslink (?) cable.

Last week i purchased a new MBA and I asked about optical, the sales rep told me that he always used optical out from his MBA. I was surprised to hear this since i never came across this feature listed in specs. The rep then searched for some optical info and was just as surprised to find none listed.

I have yet to try the optical out from the headphone jack from my MBA as both my MBP and optical to mini jack cable are in another continent at the moment. The mystery continues for me...
