In order to have a Audiophile-grade home set up, these are what you need:

 

Asus Xonar DG:

 

~$30

Koss KSC-75

 

~$20

Xonar Unified drivers: http://brainbit.wordpress.com/2010/07/19/asus-xonar-unified-drivers/

 

 

Set the headphone amp of Xonar DG to max power and enjoy. This setup will blow away even some rigs ranging in $500+. Don't take my word for it, try it.

Cpongradulations--if true you have destroyed at least 3 entire industries.  The only good new is that Beats are going down with the pile.

Geez, if only I had known back in 2008 when I joined Head-Fi.  I could have saved thousands and thousands of dollars.

Time to sell off my multiple headphones, amps, dacs, cables.  Will the wife ever be happy!

Nice topic man, really.
The law of dimishing returns gets really strong after those two, I know what you mean!

It's no a be-all end-all setup, but for the money it's very close.

I think most of us have a level of sound quality that counts as "good enough" for most casual listening.  (Not counting the crazies at the extreme summit) 

 

And while I'm cheap, I'm not quite in original poster's category.  My FiiO E10/CAL! combination is plenty good for me right now.  And I don't see that changing anytime soon.
