Unless you're a bass head, I find the k550 to have adequate bass. The soundstage is pretty amazing for a closed headphone and is pretty balanced.

Thing is, I really do love punchy bass. I like having neutrality in the mids and highs, but I also LOVE punchy bass.

I find the k550 to have punchy bass, just don't expect a d2k kind of bass. I find it's a nice trade off to have better mids which the k550 does. Especially with the type of music you seem to listen to(I listen to the same pretty often).

Thing is, if it's less than an ATH-M50.. then I'd like to see if there are other suggestions. As much as I love a balanced sound signature... if there's no bass, I won't like it.

 

There has to be bass, or a lot of my music won't be fun to listen to.

 Sounds as though the (non basshead) Ultrasones sound signature may be for you.  If unamped the HiFi 780; if amped the Pro 750 and open and amped the HiFi 2400.
