I assumed they're a better sounding alternative to Beats, and that they're unrealistically more expensive than the orignal HD25 just to capitalise on the popularity of said Beats and the establishment of the fact that people will pay that much for iPhone headphones.
On the plus side, you can recable them with HD25 cables if you wish, and they can be had on eBay already.
edit: also they are very loud and smooth to the point where if i listen to them drunk i'm scared i'll turn them up enough to cause hearing damage
