So I am now in search of a good DAC to pair with the Soloist.  Can I get your thoughts on what DACs you used with the Soloist, budget is < $1000.  My listening preference is Rap, R&B, Acoustic and sometimes classical.

Thank you in advance.
How about audio-gd ref 5.32

The only option is to exchange the Soloist for the Conductor.  Outside of that... source forum might be better place to ask.

Completely agree with Solude, Conductor has an outstanding DAC section.

Thanks for the help guys.  Yeah I would probably better off looking at the source forum.  But the Benchmark DAC-1 and W4S DAC-2 looks really interesting. smily_headphones1.gif

Between the two, I'd go with the W4S DAC-2...much better DAC IMO.

Hey guys, just wanted to share the new gear i got :)

Burson Soloist and DA 160!

I still need to spend more time listening to them but so far very happy with the audio quality and as has been said before there is a vast improvement after about 30min of warm up :)

I personally like the stepped volume control feels very industrial, tiny bit of feedback when switching. Has more that enough power for the HD600s.

+1 on the Soloist.  Great unit for the $$.

ecva:

I have a DAC1 paired with my Soloist.  I think the combo is great.  The DAC1 is a very good unit - fully revealing without placing much of a signature on the music.  That said, I owned the DAC1 before I owned the Soloist.  If I owned the Soloist first, I don't think I would have bought the DAC1.  I think it is overkill.  I almost never listen to the headphone section of my DAC1 anymore.  My assumption is the part of the purchase price I paid for the headphone amp in the DAC1 could be saved or go to a better DAC only unit - although I fear that a step up in the DAC section will cost a bit more than the extra $$ paid for the headphone amp section.

2 cents!

You have a future-proof amp there, because it have more power to spare!

There is an update coming out for DSD compatibility which I have zero interest in.

I will be ordering a Soloist soon so I will post my impressions when I receive it.  Had to sell my Nuwave DAC to fund it so it's back to using my Concero as a DAC for now.  Might buy a Bifrost Uber when I sell my current amp to pair up with my Concero and Soloist.
