burson new soloist headphone amp - Page 76

Wow, you'll get a nice system ;-)

Sorry, I don't know about the time it takes because I had ordered mine from a local retailer ... But welcome to the club of the LCD3/Soloist combo !

Thanks CoolBurn! :)

Yeah I'm super stoked about receiving either of them. Next step would be to get a better source. Not long ago I got the Schiit Modi and it was a surprisingly big improvement over the Nuforce uDac2, but I'm guessing for this kind of system I'll be wanting a big league DAC :)

As for everything else, there is some room for improvement I'm pretty sure.  However, I'm fully satisfied with my present system using a Cowon portable player as a source !  (Please don't throw stones at me ;-) )

I promise I won't but I've come to realize the source is just as important as the amp. The difference between the x-can's USB input to the uDac2 and then to the Modi was so apparent that I keep wondering what more could there be out there if I use a mid or high-level source. I don't know the Cowon X9 but I suspect you could benefit from an upgrade in that area :) But don't mind me, if you're happy it's better to just stay happy :)

So it turns out Melbourne has been having a heatwave of over 45c degrees for the last five days, and most businesses including FedEx have not worked in those days. So my Soloist will only be picked up on Monday and should be here by the end of next week :)

I noticed this on 6moons as well. Yeah, that's a good price for 2nd hand units, almost 50% off

Received my Soloist today!!!!!! :D

Just plugged it in for the first time, listening out of my Schiit Modi and going into the GS1000s. It's already VERY different from my X-Can v8 and dare I say better. Can't wait till it's broken in properly and warmed up.

And in a few days I'll be getting my LCD-3s and then I'll be in heaven :D (until I decide my DAC is inadequate of course :)

Might be a stupid question, but if I keep the Soloist on, connected to the DAC and phones, but without playing music through it, does it still break in?

Nope. You have to play music as far as i know, moderate to low volumes is adequate.

So Im thinking about getting the soloist but I have a question, what dacs are worthy of being connected to such a beast?

I think if I buy a $900 amp and then use my STX as a dac someone on here will come and shoot me tongue.gif

Thanks atsmile.gif

Yes I know its overkill for my current DT880s, plan on getting HD800s eventually cool.gif

Depending on what the cost would be for you, the Schiit Uber seems to be a fantastic DAC for the Soloist.  I'm sure there are many other fine DAC's without spending more than $500 USD.
