I'm using the E17 and love it. The EQ is also very nice and can turn the 550s into an extremely fun can

I second this. I love K550 with E17 combo more than my Q701 with E17 combo :)

Has any owner tried different ear pads? Which brand and model? The K550 driver housing is 108mm diameter, larger than the typical Beyer DT880 (100mm) and even the Denon D2000 (105mm). I find the ear cavity a bit on the small side and possible expensive alternatives are the afore mentioned D2000 and LCD2 (110mm but stick-ons). I'd like to spend a little bit less than those two. Thanks.

I would also like to know about this. Modding has only yielded slight improvement for me, and I'd rather not spend a lot of money.

hmm, new headphone in town, K545. Some pics here http://www.engadget.com/gallery/harman-soho-akg-k545-and-kt835bt-headphones/947413/#!slide=947434

looks like there is a BT edition (bluetooth and nfc) And seems like it comes with removable cable. and seems like it has thicker padding on the headband too. I haven't had comfort issues with that on K550. Seems like it could be a decent upgrade.

wonder how it compares to our loved K550

I'm not sure that the headband padding looks any thicker, but the pads definitely do. I am also curious.

hmm the real pictures yah, definitely the same. The couple renders threw me off: http://www.engadget.com/gallery/harman-soho-akg-k545-and-kt835bt-headphones/947413/#!slide=947413 Ah looks like the headband is exactly the same , but the cups are seem smaller, so can't get the pads from those on K550.

Someday, I will make my K550 fit well, and it will be a glorious day indeed.

Very good observation! The OD becomes smaller but keeping the ID more or less the same. This gives an illusion that the padding becomes thicker.

In fact the smaller OD should fit more different head shape. Hence a better seal for someone who have had difficulty before. Good move by AKG. ; )

Agree'd, I'm trying to trade out my K550, as the treble is a little too nuetral for me [I want to hear the Sound Magic hp 100] Not to mention the forward mids of the k550 might not pair well with the Hm801 AND the iBasso Pb1, both of which add some mid warmth. So a can with slighty recessed mids would pair really nice with two darker amps

Still though, I did enjoy the k550 every much :D

Just got K550, and I was so eager to open and hear them..

Very first impressions, after just a couple minutes of listening:

Highs are sharp as razor! would say too sharp, sibilant to my ears. But there is a catch - first couple of songs were FLAC - sounded that sharp, then couple songs were 320kbps MP3, they sound less sibilant?!

Maybe they need time, let say burn-in, for which I am not really believer.

Bass is existing, but not really forward, lets say on par with my Senn HD428, maybe even bit less.

I paired them with FiiO E10.

I got best fit on number 6 on both sides, and I can say I have quite big head.
