New K550 fan here! I really love the not so-bloated-bass from them, unlike other cans, for me the "stump" of the bass of this cans is enough. Also, love the soundstage. The first time I tried them on the store before buying, (after trying other headphones with the same price range), I was moved to a hypnotic state lol. Really love them for "live" recordings of Bossa Nova's and other accoustic songs. Appreciate them much, but a little not so much satisfied with the mids on some songs. But all-in-all the sound is really what I was looking for. If only they improved the punch of the mids though (Or does using other amp aside from my E12 can enhance them much more?).

I'm really loving them through my Note 3 e18 combo. These headphones grow on me all the time. The bass doesn't seem to be an issue for me anymore as I've become accustomed to more refined headphones. Looking forward to seeing how they sound through my Topping NX1 when it finally bloody arrives.

I use Ipod / Z + e12. The first time I listen to k550 is I knew the bass seems enough for me. :) Please share your experience with your upcoming amp!

Picked it up yesterday and for the cost the NX1 is an awesome amp. In my opinion it pairs very nicely with the AKG K550 as it matches their sound very closely (accurate and uncoloured). However, if you find thm lacking in bass a warmer amp like the fiio ell might be a better choice.

Curious- has anyone successfully modded any XB700 pads to fit the K550 yet? I have a spare pair I may try, I just need to get another K550 :p

They are so plush it seems like the could get a very good seal for people with smaller heads...

Just went over to the dark side. I think I'm the first on Head-fi to get the Soundmagic HP150, the revised version of the HP100s. I kinda prefer the HP150 to the sound of the K550, but could see people go either way (very similar). However, it's so nice to have a headphone that (a) fits much better (no finicky placement; no stuffing the pads), (b) has a more usable cable length, with an extension, (c) is a bit smaller and comes with it's own case, making it a bit better for portability, (d) and did I say shoudn't have fit issues for anyone.

Those of you who are ready for a change, come, join the dark side smily_headphones1.gif

'Nuff said. I didn't come to troll the K550 thread and start an argument. But if at the same price, I cannot recommend K550. Still makes me mad at AKG that they didn't do better on the K550 fit.

What are the SQ differences? It's good to have some sort of barometer for reference between different headphones.

They look interesting, but the company's website is pure crap. Thanks for all of the info you've posted in the appreciation thread.

Update your sig dude!

I have't had them that long that I want to try to describe the sound differences between between them and the K550. They are rather similar, and I wouldn't want to try a quick comparison. The HP150 is apparently the same headphone as the HP100 when it comes to the drivers and SQ. So I know that people have compared them before, if you want to search for that.

Thanks, I forgot about changing my sig. My new amp/dac is not here yet (in shipping), but might as well add it since I don't have the old ones any more. (lol)

Well, all I can say is better a website that needs usability improvement than a headphone that does wink.gif

What about in terms of soundstage? To me that was one of the best features of the K550...

Sorry. Like I just said above, "I have't had them that long that I want to try to describe the sound differences between between them and the K550 . . . New here people, just to say I'm listening to my k550's via my NAD c542 and Dacmagic plus it all sound's great to me. Huge detail and air between Jill Scott's voice and the instruments ( the light of the sun ). Love the depth of the bass on these phones too. My favourite out my shure 530 Bud's and MDR-1s!

Hi guys, I just bought a pair of Aurvana's, they sound fun, very bass bloated, but my problem is they press too much on my head (59cm..), and they are supposed to be comfortable.. well I now crave a flatter sound and the k550 happen to be suited to big heads. Do you think I could have fitting problems? Has anyone tried the K551? I somewhat read AKG made them stiffer and more clamping, but I'm not sure it's true....

thanks

The K551 fits the same as the K550.
