Total Airhead & Porta Corda reviewed (long) - Page 2

but utdeep...isn't the pc's crossfeed supposed to be one of the best features?
Nope.
At least not with the Etys. It takes bass out of the recordings. The total airhead adds an artificial bass to make up for this effect and hurts the treble, but the porta corda does not.
I only use the porta corda's crossfeed if there is an extreme stereo effect to a recording, otherwise it's off. When it's off, there's no contest between the TA and porta... the porta corda is clearly a lot better.

IMHO of course... but it is repeated in the other reviews as well.

is the PC's cross-feed bass shy with all cans, or is it just especially noticable with the etys?

Nice review secondreef.I too have the total Airhead and was using ET4s for the past year or so.However, the near total isolation became a nuisance after a while. Also not so easy to let a friend use the ETY's!Anyway,I returned to my previous favourite Grado, this time opting for the SR325 over my old SR125.While the Total Airhead works well with the Etymotic ER4s it doesn't do so well with Grados. At the time of my SR125 ownership I used the Grado RA1 with excellent results.I am interested in hearing a comparison between the Airhead and Porta Corda using Grado cans.If all else fails,I will return to the RA1 but would prefer the easy portability of the Porta Corda.Maybe someone out there has experience of all three with Grado 'phones.I am also looking for a suitable home based amp for the Grados and would appreciate any feedback on this

moose,
I did not have a crossfeed bass reduction issue with the V6 so it is headphone dependent.

Great review.  My first amp is the TA.  Love it.  Thank you.
