In fact your comparison reminds me of a PM exchange I had with music_4321 some time back. I told him that I heard my PF VIII as ever so slightly shouty in the lower treble with one of my classical test tracks. He listened to the same track with his PF IX and replied that he heard no such thing. I didn't know what to make of that, because between my older FAD 1601s, it's actually the steel model (SS) that has a tad more lively treble than the brass one (SB). So why would it be the other way round with the PF models? But now your A/B comparison seems to confirm the difference that music_4321 and I experienced between his PF IX and my PF VIII back then.

hmm.. Interesting. Thanks. May just have to go IX.

Edit: The only thing holding me back is that the PF isn't so good in some people's opinion with full orchestra.

Hmm, must admit I have not been left wanting with Orchestra with mine. I was listening to Ivan Fischer's version of Mahler's sixth today and it sounded great to me.

Thanks Ian!

I wish Shane would post some more impressions! Hard to pull the trigger when I will be able to audition them in a few months. Gosh I am so impatient.

Well, I guess you could buy them and if you don't like them return them for a refund or exchange on the SS's.. Just a thought.

Gentlemen,

The PF IX is ordered.

In the mean time, I've had quite the correspondance with Dimitri at Musica Acoustics. If I decide not to keep the Heaven VI, he has encouraged me to send it to another Head-fier of my discretion for Audition. He, and I, are interested in what you think.

My announcement is a bit premature since I haven't decided whether to keep them yet. I'll keep you posted!

I wait with baited breath at your thoughts. I truly hope they alter the way you appreciate music the way they have done for me. I am off tomorrow on my annual vacation to Banff for Christmas and New Year. Last year I took the LCD's and Etymotics, this year it will be the PF's and the Ortofon e-Q5's which were a prize from Demitri for my review of the PF's.

The Heaven VI is IMHO the all-around best earphone Final Audio has made since the FI-BA-SS.

The Heaven VI really opened up my ears to the big problems with multi-BA's. The ES5 is more refined for sure, but it's a wall of sound. And they are so colored, they make classical a travesty by comparison. The HVI is so natural sounding in timbre by comparison. I know the PF's are lightyears away in sonic signature, but I can't wait to see what treasure they behold.

I think I actually go against the grain here as I think the PF's render real instruments really authentically, especially piano and strings, it really conveys the emotion of a live performance so well, it is why I think once you get adjusted to how we think phones should sound in that they exaggerate you will find the PF's refreshingly honest in their approach to live real instruments, least that is how it feels to me and to several of my musician friends and clients.

thread has become silent lately..

The heaven vi looks interesting...since it's the best after fibass(sry if i misunderstood), anyone care to chime in on their differences?

Some comparison with the Fitear111 would be nice too since they are both singe ba!

This is a comparison I'd like to see too although my interest is now purely academic since I canceled my order for the F111's in favour of something else.

It's the Piano Forte's, particularly the IX's, that hold my interested in here. I'm after another pair of phone for home use with the Sennheiser HD800's being the other option I'm considering. Since I'm coming from Audeze LCD2's ver.1 and HD600's I know a period of adjustment is will be required with either option. With the HD800's I can try before I buy, with the Piano Forte's I don't have that option and have to go by what I've read about them. If Piano Forte's reproduce the music recommended on this thread convincingly, and I suspect they do, then that weighs heavily in the their favour. I've enjoyed many of the recommendations and have purchased a number of them.

It seem that those who favour the the Piano Forte's seem to really favour them. The question is, am I one of those people?

Charnwood, I'm in the 'don't recommend Piano Fortes' camp even though I love my IX. They are rather strange.

I will say though that I have just spent five days exploring my new Senn IE800 which has lovely mids and which is quite certain to be my new go-to portable IEMs. I have been listening constantly and I finally just said enough, put them down and puled out my PF IX. It is the first listen in weeks; I have been traveling.

It is wonderful to step back into the massive bell tower, turn on those tiny transistor AM radios (they have to be in there somewhere) and lose myself in the ambience of it all. It is a completely different kind of wonderful mids. It is also difficult to describe as this paragraph proves.

This I think I can understand given that they are rather strange. I'll give this more thought but I'm thinking they may be a step too far for me.

I will have to have a listen to the ie800's Paul after hearing your thoughts.

Been quiet pleased this Banff vacation with the ortofon's I recently won, they are a nice sealed alternative to the IX's though my ears now seem less tolarent of foam or silicon being stuffed into them!
I must admit though it is lovely to get back to my hotel room and listen to the IX's again!
