I have the AKR02 and I like the detachable cable, but it is a proprietary screw-in connector. I have emailed iRiver several several times about the availability of a balanced cable for use with the AK240 and they don't even bother to reply. I also asked about buying the balanced cable for the AKR03, since I already have the Roxanne UF and an AK240, but again no reply. Not exactly a responsive vendor.

They still haven't fixed the AK100 software so that it can play a VBR MP3 track all the way to the end.

I'm not sure anyone here has heard the akr02. One theory going around is that the akr02 is tuned like the internal distribution limited edition white cable version of the fibass that MuppetFace has. I don't think that was ever proved though. If so, it should be a bit mellower / sweeter than the standard fibass.

An important difference is the akr02 detachable cable which makes balanced use possible with a custom replacement. I don't know if that has caught on though.

thanks for answering sir.

somehow i feel like buying one really, coz, i thought it was a little step up to my current favorite heaven 6.

hey guys...just wanna ask, are the LAB1 good with more modern music ie EDM, Hip Hop & RnB? I can gather that its signature is more suited towards vocals, percussion, piano and strings? But what about modern stuff?

They are absolutely rubbish with those genres. Honest injun

Care to elaborate? I know they don't exactly have the most quantity in terms of bass but that wouldn't make them absolutely irrelevant to the genres mentioned

They are certainly terrible with music that has pre-distorted bass, i.e. bass produced to exceed the media headroom (sadly common in some modern hip-hop). Well, that is crap anyway, just worse crap on the Lab 1. I might not be so harsh on other electronica but it is also true that I am not listening to what the OP referred to. (I am not even sure what EDM is.) As I remember, 80s electronica like Vanessa Daou, Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and such was okay. I have not listened to too much of it so let me get home to try again. I am another short trip without the Lab 1. Last night I was seriously missing them (which is part of the point - Perspective!) I am getting close to posting some proper impressions when time allows.

Electronic Dance Music. Wide genre consisting of Trance, House, Electro, Progressive, Hardstyle etc. Beats per minute usually 120 to 160 with complicated layers.

I have a funny feeling Idsynchrono_24 is pulling our leg here. I had a PM convo with him before I pulled the trigger on the labs and he said they kick ***** at edm. HiFlight also confirmed the Lab is a good all-rounder. Whether or not it's the best in class for edm I don't know but I suspect it holds its own. I will find out tomorrow when my Labs arrive :L3000: and report back.
