Likewise, i am also in the toronto area....i spent a couple of hours today on amazon.co.jp....the Final Audio

products are very well priced there but i wasn't able to finish the checkout process when i entered my

Canadian address...too bad as the HeavenV was priced at under 250.00

I was also at PriceJapan...i was able to proceed to checkout but then realized they added a 40.00 commission

to the deal....

It would be nice to find a solution...

I am in Vancouver, I ordered both my Heaven S and Piano Forte IX's from musica acoustic in Japan. Great company to deal with and competitive prices and only $20 EMS shipping.
I had no customs fees charged with either pair.

They are a great company to work with but prices are not always competitive. What you do get for your extra buck is the piece of mind that should there be a problem with your purchase, warranty service won't be a hassle.

For Amazon Japan you have to use the Tenso forwarding service. I've used it about a half dozen times.

http://www.tenso.com/en/

You sign up, they give you a Tenso address to use with Amazon Japan, then you buy from Amazon Japan, it gets sent to Tenso, then on to you in Canada or the states.

They charge about $20-30 for fees and shipping of basic earphones. Search Head-fi for Tenso, others have used this service. It works really well.

Another Toronto guy here but based in Shanghai. I'm afraid that buying FAD in Canada is not an option at the moment. There are good suggestions for buying above.

Regarding Price Japan, I would not be so down on the commission. Any seller needs to earn a profit. Price Japan's business model is to find the cheapest online price in Japan, usually by scrubbing the results from Kakaku.com. They then give you the ability to buy indirectly from that online retailer - a valuable service since Japanese online retailers do not ship overseas - by buying the product for you and adding their commission which is their profit plus the EMS fee to ship overseas. I have purchased both the PF IX and the Heaven VI through Price Japan and the price was, I believe, better than anything I could otherwise find online and certainly better than the retail prices in Hong Kong.

The only review on Kakaku for the 1601SC concludes that it is like Pickled radish + yellow No. 4. I am trying to decide if I agree with this. Not precisely, no, although it is an interesting take on things. It is hard to argue with the Pickled radish but it is more like yellow No. 5 IMHO.

(Google's translation looks to be spot on; that really is the review.)

I'd like to remind posters of this thread that this is a Piano Forte and 1601 thread only. Any talk / discussion of other IEMs such as the new and old Heavens, the FI-BA-SS or the Adagios should be taken to Dsnuts' threads. Thank you.

^ Just mixing things up?  ;-)

(I kind of miss the old grumpy sparrow. This faux grumpy lacks that spicy sense of danger and impending banishment.)

Ill change the title and I don't think it fits in the suggested threads, it's fine here. It's not like the PF has many owners anyway.

Grumpy old sparrows keep ageing and, as it often happens, there's a gradual mellowing that takes place with age. These days the old grumpy sparrow ends all his posts with either "Happy listening" and/or just a very happy smiley and, on top of that, he now calls everyone "buddy". This mellowing has been so effective, in fact, that music_4321 has been asked to become a moderator (!)… Now, when that happened, he suddenly remembered that true grumpiness and that sense of danger you speak of are still very much part of his DNA. And so, our sweet loving sparrow has now officially stopped taking his daily dose of chill pills.

They do fit in those threads, specially the FI-BA-SS & Heaven VI.

FYI, you'd be surprised to learn how many PF owners there actually are out there—not as few as you think, they just don't post in this thread. No matter how hard I've tried to convince people the PFs (and 1601s) are "abominations", the interest remains there and seems to be growing even.

All I ever wanted was for us to be just a handful of snobs who belonged to a very exclusive club known as The Shiny & Expensive & Exotic Crap-sounding Phones Club. Seems I've been more successful with the K3003s, ie no-one is interested in the AKGs and now it's all about the 1p2s and that cheap Uuuuber cable; even Mr Uncool only yesterday declared his unconditional love for the 1p2s — now that was a huge blow, it was like your spouse of 25 years had been cheating on you with your best friend for the last 15-20 years.

upward!

Show me the way!!!!

Thanks cooper. It's a bit goofy looking but works well!
