Oh...

Interested!

Just got my HD800 in, listening now. Uh oh, good stuff here. Not nearly as bright as I thought it would be. Need to roll out these warm tubes.

Will have comparison to FI-BA-SS soon, since that is what reminds me the most about the HD800 (and 1p2).

So, I completely dropped that ball on this week's listening session with the PF (or whatever earphone tickles your fancy). There did not seem to be much interest earlier this week when I posted about it. Lets shoot for next Saturday to listen to RiddleGuy's album of his choosing.

Right now my Saturday is wide open next weekend. What works for you guys?

music_4321, I have spent the evening going through a good part of my classical music collection with the FI-BA-SS, using them with my main amp and DAC, and I have to say, that even the live Richter concerts at Carnegie Hall, which were very poorly recorded, sounded acceptable, and most everything else, sounded incredible. For example, I have never heard the Martha Argerich concerto recordings sound so good.

Your very positive comments about the FI-BA-SS made me go back to them for a serious listening session, and I completely agree that they are stunningly good with classical music.

(Good news!)

A mini FAD Gathering. Well, I come to accept that I can't beat FAD into delivering what I want, but to rest my ego and just listen to what it sings. And well, I can't really say it is marvelous. I'm sure it's unique, and I totally give up on picking up details (habit) or roaring bass (habit) just to listen to the music presentation as a whole.

You know, this is what HiFi is meant to be all about! A truly great system should actually make you forget about highs and lows, about micro details and such. The measure of a truly great HiFi system is that it simply should disappear and leave just the performance.

The FAD's may not tick all of Hertsen's and the rest of his brigades boxes but then most of us do not listen for measured responses, we do that crazy thing which is have great gear so we can forget about it and just listen to music! Crazy concept I know wink.gif

The highest compliment I have had paid to me over the years of having fun trying to find a system that just makes me think about music and not all the HiFi details came the other week when an old friend came into town and had a listen to my system with both my PF's and T5P's.

At the end of listening to various genres for well over an hour he looked at me and straight faced said that there was nothing remarkable about the system, however, the music was so engrossing he just wanted to keep listening and listening!

That's perfectly it! What a compliment! Not hearing the device, listening to the music. : )

OK guys, I need a roll-call of potential people interested in Saturday, June 15's PF listening to RiddleGuy's Faure album.

I should be on for that unless I have to work which at the moment looks like I won't. Sorry I missed it this week, I was really looking forward to hearing the album!

It didn't happen at all due to lack of responses and lack of my follow-up.

So far, the usual suspects:

Forgot to mention, I've already bought the Fauré Requiem as download from Amazon Germany. Different CD cover, but I believe it's the same Kathleen Battle / Philharmonia Orchestra recording.

Which means I'm in for a Sunday morning (time difference) listen next week, though I might be a bit late depending on your schedule.

Hi all. SF, my lack of reply is not due to lack of interest. Been on holiday with the family with limited listening time and limited 'net time. I really do want to participate in the listen-in's in the future!

That also means I have been away from my 'studio'. But I did get a new, and much better, tripod. Not my best, by any means, but worth posting, I think. Although I'm sure music would disagree.

For those interested, please click on the pfhoto, as there are a few highlights that only show up when 'maximized'. ( as usual, caveat emptor ).

For the record, (james), my shot was taken at two stories. And yes, I almost lost them. basshead.gif
