I won't say "Welcome to the club" because I've always felt rather awkward about exclusive clubs / circles, etc. (but that's me, I guess, and I mean absolutely no offence to SoundFreaq or whoever else who may feel differently). I will say, however: Welcome to this thread!

Now, now music, we all know you formed the club. (Click to show)

Fair enough. Nothing wrong with that. We're not some exclusive club.

That's very, very, VERY naughty of you, Mr woodcans,... and you know that very well. Ahhh, I should have deleted that post straightaway, or attributed that remark to someone else!

...or maybe there's a remote chance I meant something quite different when I said that.  ;)

I was about to do the exact same thing, woodcans. You beat me to it. Nice work. *high five*

Considering your personality and general phraseology...not a chance. ;)

So sad to see I've been exposed — very sad days ahead indeed for music_4321: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qzd-NIQvJ-s

Paul, you should be getting your Heaven VI soon!

I will be checking out the Heaven V soon. Very soon.

Hey music _4321,

Thanks very much. Incidentally, I have really enjoyed reading your posts throughout this thread.

Welcome, Ridleyguy. Excellent avatar BTW.

Indeed. I hope that I am not travelling when they land.

Remember the distortion I was talking about a few pages back? Some of it was in the music (thanks Ian, stuck on lossless now), but I also traced some back to my RSA 71B. With ultra-sensitive IEMs I was getting a very low amount of distortion on some tracks. I did not notice this with other low impedance cans. Just the FAD stuff that is so sensitive/low impedance.

So, I bought a 75ohm resistor cable (The Etymotics ER4 cable) and added it in. Not only does it eradicate the distortion, but there is a noticeable appreciation in detail and transparency in both the Heaven VI and V. I am betting the same is true for the FI-BA-SS and PFIX as I heard the distortion with them as well.

So, for $50, there's a strong chance that a resistor cable will take your FAD experience to another level. It is pretty noticeable.

I don't know how you have your stuff hooked up but I hit some odd distortion when I had to use a crappy USB hub for a little while. Plugged the cable back into my laptop directly and it was gone.

Also that's super interesting to hear about the added resistance for my incoming Heaven V. I have low and high impedance output jacks on my D100. Would using the high have the same effect as the added resistance cable?

I can't wait for it to get here. I might have it as soon as tomorrow sooo... Is there a secret handshake or something?

I had the distortion from a few different sources. All high quality.

And no, using the high resistance setting would not be the same effect. In fact, that might make it worse by having a potentially higher impedance mismatch. With very low impedance earphones, you want an amp with a very low output impedance to drive the earphone to its fullest capacity. Add in resistance to the line between the amp and earphone is like raising the resistance if your earphone, and it makes your amp happier. Usually adding impedance to an earphone is a good thing and makes amps happier. Others here can get into very technical discussions about impedance matching. But that's the gist of it.

Gotcha. Had it backwards. I asked because it didn't seem to make sense to me.
Thanks!

By the way, I'm listening to the Heaven V right now, and I am very impressed with it. It's really a great value. The differences between it and the VI are so insignificant to me. I think the VI is a tad more extended on each end, and has a more rich midrange, but those differences really come down to preferences. Piano on the V sounds so natural. Both the Heaven V and VI are fantastic IEMs. The V is probably a slightly better value.
