Forgive me. This is really stupid.
Amusing though. (I do not think that the Piano Fortes were intended for binaural recordings but it makes for an interesting listen.)
Fun! Even without the PFs!
1601/1602 SB initial impressions
This is what they feel like against your ears:
But they sound like you took two of these:
Stuffed them in two of these:
And rocked them like this:
And I'm left looking like this:
Bewilderment. That's a very good one word description.
I'll need to spend a lot more time to get my mind right with them but I'd say the terms mono and sepia tone come to mind regarding the sounds I'm hearing. It's very, very different. Whether that's good or bad, well that's up the seashell wearer.
Ambiance and soundstage for me is strangely in head, airy, yet in some kind of wavy and bizarrely shaped concert hall. Lead vocalists seem to come from everywhere in my head, while back up singers pop up in my left ear, then pop up over to my right ear, then sometimes above me. Percussion sound like they are coming from behind me and I can't figure out where the guitars are emanating from.
So yeah, Bewilderment.

Does this describe what you're feeling?

This undeniably beautiful IEM/Earbud crossbreed is one controversial piece of equipment to say the least. In short, so far I feel kinda like standing in front of a modern painting pondering whether it's art or just birds**t.

I think those impressions are pretty much in keeping with what James444, Music_4321, myself, and others have said about the 1601 and 1602. They ain't gonna be everyone's cup of tea for sure. They are extremely different compared to just about every other IEM on the planet. They literally sound like a bunch of old radios playing inside a grand concert hall (as opposed to a grand concert being played on an old radio --- there's a difference, I think). There is a definitely set of things these creatures excel at doing, and a set of things they're pretty deficient at doing.
That's why I get really nervous when someone asks me if I'd recommend these. If they were $200 or so, then I'd still be nervous, but not as much. But these things cost around a grand---up to almost three grand---USD. I think you need to go in expecting bewilderment and possible disappointment, otherwise you may end up really disappointed if you aren't prepared.
Just my 2 cents.
If that scares some people away from these... good. LOL. Really though, I love these, and if you "get it" you may just love them too. It's a risk with potential for great disappointment... but also great reward. I'll also say that if you want a pure and concentrated shot of just what FAD is truly about, then these are about as direct as you can get. FAD is kinda a Janus of a company. These are the pure essence of what FAD's "colorful side" is about, distilled into a piece of metal ear-candy.
What are the biggest differences between the PF VIII and IX. Subtle at best? Hoping to save a couple bucks.

GUYS! Got a Christmas bonus! Ordering the PF VIII or IX NOW in time for Christmas break. Which one? What are the differences. Ordering this evening!
