Final Audio Design Appreciation/Discussion Thread - Page 33

thanks for helping me test that out.

I understand that they'd sound much better with a good amp but its kinda troublesome to carry the amp with me when I just want to listen to music while walking or on the bus.

Anyway I guess I'll be getting the classic sometime soon.

All this (past) talk of KC, VdGG and other rather obscure bands…anyway, this really isn't the type of music I tend to listen to, and as Americans would say "Well, sue me!", but I absolutely love these two songs on the PF IX & 1601SS. Great singing on the first one and some pretty good (Fender) bass on the second one (Note: excuse the poor audio quality):

Was exploring some Gene Vincent last night, what an experience it is through the IX's! Also I highly recommend Allen Toussaint's wonderful album 'The Bright Mississippi' with the PF's.. In fact any headphone but it really shines with the PF's!

This isn't the best quality youtube video but I have the cd ripped to my collection. Southern Rawk!  I've never heard another phone present this song better. With the SS It's raw, it's edgy, it's sweaty and it's sleazy.

Now that has TWANG! I love it, will try to find them and check them out!

I am really enjoying the Stoner Acoustics UD100 DAC with the Piano Forte IX. This is my first experience with the Sabre ES9023 chip. The UD100 > Stepdance > PF IX combination is clean and musical.

(At $49 the UD100 is insane value. The irony of driving feeding an $1,100 headphone with a $50 DAC is not lost on me. But... why not?)

High art that!

James, that is a wonderful photo! Paul, I will have to check that DAC out. I think the combination sums up the PF'S experience really.. Prepare to be surprised around every corner!

Edit, Inspired by Paul I just dug out the freebie goVibe mini U-dac I got when I purchased a pair of headphones. Plugged it into the computer and my Blackbird and played Anne Bisson then played the same track on my usual set up.. Not a success! It sounded terrible! Thin, un-involving , just awful, ahh well, worth a try!

Hah! Ian, I am sure that this reference in my FI-BA-SS / TG334 / PF X impressions slipped by you:

It is the same song but Anna Domino and Michel Delory's take on traditional American songs dealing with violence is decidedly untraditional. Songs From My Funeral is cold and cruel and delicious; absolutely one of my favorite albums. And this song, St. James, is one that I use to test headphones (with a proper CD-quality version):

I like Allen Toussaint's version that you posted. Much gentler.

Shane, I like this. Never heard of these guys before. I agree that the sound is Southern Rawk but i am not sure that Philadelphia technically qualifies.  :-)

Ha! Southern Rawk is indeed a style and an attitiude but rednecks are everywhere; Bob Ritchie is a Motor City native.

Dagnabbit Paul! i thought with the IX's I was about to save money but what is happening now is I just want to explore things I never would have before. I really like the version you posted and will now go and find the album, love stuff like that! I have said it before but it is worth repeating.

I think it is testament to what the Final Audio stuff does that we spend more time discussing music on this thread than we do the equipment. For me that sums up the Final Audio experience in a nutshell!

Another music suggestion. I love Americana and for me this woman is at the top of the tree. I first heard of her many years ago when I lived in the UK and the excellent BBC radio two showcased her work. Her name is Iris DeMent and this was the first album of hers I purchased, Infamous Angel. This is the first cut from that album.

It`s not yet on the English site but the Heaven VI is now in the Japanese site lineup. This time the model has exaggerated pinkish cheekbones. I want to be FAD`s official Photoshop engineer. It must be fun.  :-)

Clicking through to the Heaven VI and onwards to the online shop, they are listing it for Yen 45,000 = US$575. (Pre-orders get a 20% discount.) So the street price should be well under $500 if prior trends are followed. It also seems that it is available in brown only to accompany the chrome copper barrel. It looks pretty nice.
