I wonder what amp everyone is using with their 160x? I ask this because the Classic + Stepdance lets me listen at very low volume levels with perfect channel balance. My latest discovery, sitting here listening at the wee hours, is that the PF IX sounds wonderful at low volume. It brings out the liquid mids.

Oh, and for the last couple of hours I have been listening again without any EQ and loving it. I think that this is a mood thing. The natural sound balance is sweet and and a bit mellow with bass that isn't heavy but plenty deep. I think that I will just keep playing around and playing around. These are headphones that beg to be explored.  :-)

Apparently there is new Heaven models being released? Can't wait for more info.

 

What are you referring to, specifically?

 

Edit: Oh, yes, you are referring to a post made by someone about the FAD Catalog from March.

 

This catalog was promo material from FAD released earlier this year, and it mentions a Heaven II earphone. No further info about it exists publicly to my knowledge: there is no word on whether it's actually going to be released, and if so when.

Yes. Spring Biscuit commented on my Heaven IV review about a II and a VI in the catalog. I have not seen it and could not find anything online.

I am guessing from you said you know nothing more on these products. Also is there a version of the catalog online?

Do you have by any chance a link to the catalog? Seems quite interesting!

As far as I know there isn't any official version of the catalog online, but there may be some scans of it, most likely on Asian forums. I'll keep an eye out and post a link if I find some.

 

The catalog consists of the interview with FAD's president that is available on their website (in Japanese only I'm afraid) and shows him wearing the Piano Fortes and Muramasa. It's got some shots of the latter's internal pieces that aren't available anywhere else as far as I know. It lists the Heaven II along side the Heaven IV as "new" models. Basically they look the same aside from different color schemes.

 

I know nothing else about it, so your guess is as good as mine. Perhaps it'll be released later this year? If I had to wager a bet however, I'd say it was an early idea that was scrapped for whatever reason. FAD's history (and plenty of other companies' I'm sure) is populated by a few of these earphones that never saw the light of day. There was a plastic version of the 1601 series for example (NOT the 1350), a Piano Forte III, the white-cabled FI-BA-SS, etc.

From all that you have said I think it is unlikely to ever appear. I think it's sad when these things happen.

Also I see you have the special white cable FI-BA-SS. Is it an upgrade or slighlty differenyly tuned to the original which I have not heard, if different at all?

Okay so both the Heaven II and VI will be released in september. They all three share the same design while the II has a more matte finish the VI has a chrome copper finish. It seems that the II will have a new driver and therefore sound different. The VI is supposedly a tweaked IV which is very appealing. It also claims to be the first BA to perfectly reproduce the human voice. Well i look forward to there release. I also like the chrome look better than the stainless steel and the red II looks awesome.

The Heaven VII is a new one to me. It was not listed in their March catalog.

 

I made a prediction when the Heaven IV was released that FAD would eventually discontinue the Heaven C and S models and focus on these new numerical models. If the Heaven II and VII are going to be released (keyword: if) then it seems to suggest this is so. It doesn't make sense to have so many models in their BA range otherwise, and it would fit with the precedent of their dynamic range (going from Heaven II, IV, VII to Piano Forte VIII, IX, and X).

 

Obviously that's just pure speculation on my part.

 

Also I see they've taken the Muramasa VIII out of their lineup roster.

Oh so this is a new catalog. It does clearly say they are due for release in september so i doubt it would lie about that and the numerical listing make sense.

 

 

However it does look like they are keeping the other two older heavens though. however i do not  think a whole line consisting of IEMs in the same design will go well. Also whats the chances of a FI_BA_SS successor with a numerical value? ;)

 

Hmm, he is wearing the Muramasa on the front page and the line up does say 'earphone' line up so maybe not.
