"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review - Page 370

Weird, I haven't gotten the newsletter. I've "resubscribed" just in case.

The newsletter software stopped at "110 out of xxxx".  I couldn't tell if the software glitched and they all sent, or not.  It looks like I'll have to resend.  Sorry for any duplicates.  :-/

I think I did reply, but just in case PM or email me and let's check.  Normal International Priority service is 6-9 days from shipment, and it's usually no update until it's received by the destination country.

Amazingly, we've never had a non delivery, though a few were late for no obvious reason...

I can confirm this, I had an issues getting mine as well, I never got a tracking number from paypal on Dan's end. Non the less he worked with me and offered me a replacement if the products was indeed lost. And it turns out the My local USPS had misplaced my Mad Dogs, so trust me Dan's a great guy and he will definatly work with you if something goes wrong with the delivery, [even if like in my case it was at no fault of his]

Non the less, I look forward to getting these again in the future. I miss the comfort and isolation and the darksound sound signiture may be better matched by the new solid state that I have. Still great cans look forward to getting another pair soon Dan!

Also it's good to hear there's more Air and upper mid energy in them, that was one of my biggest issues with these guys and music. And for those who don't know, I sold my Mad Dogs for a pair of ATH w1000x, and while I ADORE the w1000x sound... I still want a mad dog for my portable use! It was a wonderfully comfortable can with some of the best isolation I've heard to date. And as Dan keeps revising these I'm sure they sound will get better and better [at least for me as I like a little more than neutral air in the top]

Stillm the w1000x is not pratical for on the go listening [or gaming] as great as it sounds it's still a finnicky headphone. Again looking forward to having another rugged pair of mad dogs lol, I never had any issues with comfort or fit with my Mad Dog [and my w1000x is still finnicky in the fit and some times uncomfortable] Still... just lost a job and had to sell my portable rig [all of it minus the cans] so xD It might be some time in fall till I revist these <3

Very interesting... can someone who has heard the 3.2 revision chime in and tell us what has changed from the 3.0 version. I'm debating whether or not it is worth it for me to purchase a "Tune-Up Service". I likely will just out of pure curiosity, but would like to hear the differences first.

Thanks for your reply. I can't see any reply from you in my email inbox, but it don't matter since you are so active and supportive in this thread as well. I did check with my official post service... maybe they are stuck in transit in another country before they are coming to Norway. But really looking forward to hear them, and especially after this China scam... they broke the seal on the box, and I found fingerprints on the headphones, and the drivers are broken... It's not the end of the world, but very disappointing when they send a broken product deliberately! This was from Ebay and are not Soundmagic fault.

I am going to use Project Sunrise 2 and Custom Hifi Cable's HA10SE/DC2 with the Mad Dogs and using Hegel HD 11 DAC as well.

I've received my second newsletter a few minutes ago! cool.gif

(Speaking of which, I'm not sure I had ever signed up for a product newsletter before this. Maybe it's the fact that this is technically a mod project, or maybe I suspected even then that this product would be "a journey, not a destination", as Dan himself said in the newsletter. Whatever the reason, I felt compelled to sign up.)

In any case, I this pretty much addresses any concerns I had about the reports of revisions. Great way to handle this! smile.gif

EDIT (for "Greed"):

Taken from newsletter (I noticed this part didn't copy in the other posting)

Quote:
Version 1 - Shure 840 Pads

Version 2 - Dog Pads
  • Smoother and more balanced sound
  • Improved comfort and isolation

Version 3 - Mad Dog with Alpha Pad purchased before March 17 or Dog Pad units upgraded to Alpha Pads

  • Even better comfort, isolation
  • Smoother neutral/dark signature
  • Warmer lower mids

Version 3.1 - Mad Dog with Alpha Pad purchased between March 17 and April 12

  • Increased bass extension (slightly) and increased upper mids and treble to make the phone less dark (still dark/neutral)

Version 3.2 - Mad Dog with Alpha Pads purchased April 13 and on

  • Still more sub-bass extension
  • Also a bit more upper mid energy for more presence, reduced congestion, and more air up top. Cymbals have more brass to them, and strings are more airy and natural sounding.

Typed it manually instead of copying, so let me know if I missed anything!

MattTCG had that update done as a test...

Well, this time the mail looks like it went to 2/3 of the recipients.  Sigh.  I'll not pepper people with more copies.  If anyone needs it from me for any reason please just PM me.

I have to export my mail list to a real mail package, the store's built-in software is just not up to the task.

That, or your ISP is filtering for multiple messages from the same account as spameek.gif

The real change is in the weight of the sub bass. The MD is still not a bass hp. BUT...there is more weight and authority in the lower frequencies. It retains the textured quality that makes it realistic and instrument specific. And it also is still linear sounding, wonderfully accurate with bass light material and then punching hard with pop, new jazz and trip hop.

I'm holding back a little bit here. The Alpha pads were a big step forward but the current build puts the bass where I hoped that it always would be...audiophile THUMP!! cool.gif

Sweet.  Sounds like I got the 3.2.  I hope to receive them later this week.  Haven't received a tracking number or anything, but the site said 2-3 days for availability, so I hope they ship soon (ordered on Sunday afternoon).

They are already shipped... Yes, 3.2.

Hum... I didn't get the newsletter :/. I thought I already subscribed but it seems I didn't.

I could use some more upper mid and treble energy for rock (dynamics, dynamics...) and the update from 3.0 to 3.2 might be worth considering!
Shipping from France to the US is too expensive though :-(

@Dan: if you want a EU reseller, you could contact Audiophonics. The website is nowhere near as nice as yours but they are official reseller for "not-so-visible" companies like Lite audio, Audio-GD or Hifiman. They ship in most European countries I think and have an English website.

Those changes sound great, even if incremental. The upper-mids and sub-bass are primarily where I EQ (for my preference), so this tuning sounds like it'll definitely work for me!
