That was my concern and you seem to confirm that (weight + darker sound).

The Alpha Pads work well for the older Hifimans (HE-4, HE-5LE) because they are (much) lighter and also brighter overall.

I don't think that's really an issue at this point. I mean, we're talking about the HE-500 here.

Listening to Telegraph Road on the Fostex HP-A3 (JRiver) now, one word (or expression) comes to mind: "Chapeau maestro!"

Simply brilliant!

There's something to be said about how good a song is when it's played in full on the radio despite being over 14 minutes long.

Telegraph Road is a masterful piece of musical art, and is my favorite Dire Straits song by far.

Actually, Dire Straits  in general sound brilliant with the Mad Dogs!

Actually, I discovered Telegraph Road recently (this week). Fang Bian wrote about it on Hifiman's blog website ph34r.gif

Don't know if that's a planar thing but the song is marvelous on both the MDs and HE-5LE. A different presentation that is equally enjoyable!

Mark Knopfler is a very sound-savvy artist (along the lines of Dave Matthews), so almost anything he puts out tends to be really well-produced.

Never heard it before (more into jazz), but enjoying it now on Spotify through the MDs !

The phones (when the risers are in their most compact position) are:

7 1/4" long (base to crown)

6 3/4" wide

3 7/8" in height

I'm interested in this too.  I'm considering some Alpha's for my HE-6's...Wearing the MD's gets you addicted to comfort.  I'll also be posting some thoughts about the MD Balanced and unbalanced with various headphone amps: from the i-CAN, to the Mal Valve, to a new prototype from Crayon.  Wonderful sounding CANs these Dogs.  Also there's a review in the works on 6Moons that might be fun to read.

Thanks for the heads up on the MD review. Unfortunately it's just a teaser and only an introduction. mad.gif Hope to see the rest of the review soon...

Edit...the preview states that the MD now weighs in at 470 grams. Is that correct? I thought that it was more like 400 grams.

The iCan looks very interesting but is somewhat polluted with lots of marketing...

LOL!

I wonder how many adjetives the 6Moons review will have... AND if it will actually SAY something concrete about the headphones performance. :-p
