"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review - Page 283

I don't know, that was exactly my question a couple pages back! I'm having a hard time relating ortho's need for current with typical amp specs.

I don't necessarily need a DAC either, I'll be using the amp in the living room (occasionally moving it to my PC which already has a decent source), but I wouldn't mind going for it at the UHA-6S' price... It would satisfy any future portable needs.

OTOH if the Magni's a big improvement I'd probably just get that by itself and an extra AC adapter. tongue.gif I might email Leckerton to see what they say, heard the designer's pretty open... In all likelihood I might end up testing both at some point (Magni/UHA-6S).

At least they both have very solid return policies... biggrin.gif I'd definitely love to hear other's input/guidance.

Clarification: 1 o'clock with the HE-500, not MDs. Don't have MDs (yet).

I'd personally suggest the Magni as I feel the Mad Dogs perform better when they're fed ≥ 750mW.  That's just a personal opinion though.  The amps I have drive the MD's at about 768mW, 960mW, 1.54W, and 6W.  I do feel they get better with more power very_evil_smiley.gif

Hah, that'd rule out the majority of portable amps (usually under 250mW @ 32-50 ohm?), I can deal with that tho... My wallet would certainly be happier if I just got a Magni by it's lonesome. I guess I'll definitely be trying it out if only just to get a first hand sense of how well the MD scale.

I use mine as portables with no problem. Why aren't they portable for you? They don't fit in the pocket, but that should known that by looking at the pictures of them.

Nothing wrong with that. I may eventually go the same route, but I don't see myself shelling out for an ear mold unless I'm getting something truly top-end, from JH or FitEar.

Even if you're going through puberty it will still take around 3 years... Asked an audiologist. By 3 years you'll have an upgrade... tongue.gif

Good news, our pads are on the way, and should be here mid-week next week.  Thanks for the patience!
