I'm pretty sure that Dan got a Burson recently. I'd still put the lyr up against it any day. I just don't you'll find a better pairing.

PS,budget DACs would be great too

I always use a Dragon Fly with my Mad Dog, and still love it very much.

thanks for the reply,i was considering a dragonfly or one of the schiit dacs, but i'm more focused on finding a portable amp ATM.

oh you mean to pair it with one of the portable player right?

I heard Fiio E12 is a good one with enough power.

I hear mixed reviews on the e12. You might check boewi's (sp?).

Dan brought his Burson, Schiit Lyr/Bifrost and Schiit magni/modi plus 3 pair of mad dogs with alpha pads to the SF meet. That Burson is probably as good as it gets. B22 was at least as good.

Actually, E12 is not a good match due to synergy IMO. Though I like E12 a lot... (check my review and it's obvious I'm almost biased against everything that didn't have "E12" in its name)

IIRC, Dan brought along a Burson Conductor:

And I didn't hear the Mad Dogs through it, but my brother did. Here's what he has to say about it:

Very clean, clear, with excellent sense of space and presence. Vocals were hauntingly good, and instruments were clearly distinct.

He preferred that pairing (MD + Conductor) to the LCD-2 and HD800 right across the table (that was Schiit's table if I'm not mistaken), so that says something.

Maybe check out the C&C BH if you want a cheap and good amp for it, 99$ shipped.

Remember, you need a powerful amp to power these.

I heard the Mad Dog through my BH at the SF Bay Area meet.

It was alright. I felt the MD still needed more power to shine, though the pairing definitely had much better synergy than the Fiio E12.
