LOL... :-)
LOL... :-)
I'm up and running with the modi/magni. Wow.
My ears immediately went to full attention, extracting every nuance that I expect from an audiophile system. You really, really need an amp with these headphones. The magni is set to just under 1/2 max volume. Testing the upper end of the volume, my ears gave out just before the amp started to compress - around 3/4 max volume. Nice.
How does this compare to a high-end audiophile system? I used to own one years ago (tubes, etc.). It's got a ways to go, but the fact that I'm comparing this to my old setup is a very nice complement.
A tube amp doesn't seem out of line if I want to improve... I should probably upgrade the RCA cable interconnect between the modi/magni. It's a standard cable now, but it's a short run and at low levels.
Just wondering if anyone knows of a case that will fit the mad dog's. Just need one for bring it to and from school on vacations.
I am also using the magni/modi and while I have nothing to compare it to except for onboard audio, I am enjoying it very very much.
Nice find Aaron, I was thinking about getting a pelican case. Like a huge one to put all my headphones in.
One of the big rolling ones? I'd be careful. If you do that, you become one of "those people".
hahah I wouldnt roll it around, its just that I don't like keeping the headphones out in the open or even on a stand. I'm a super laid back guy but idk I like my headphones super neat lol
Er.... I have two of them now.
You know, I would mock you.... but when I first met Mr. Speakers he was smiling and couldn't stop talking about his new "Burson amp" and how much he loved it. Especially when he paired it with these "modified Fostex" he was so into back then. "Here, give these a listen" he would say, "I just did a little tweaking inside and they're great".
"Why is this guy so obsessed with low level headphones? And why is he so happy with this little burson unit". A few years later.... here I am with mad dogs and a soloist.
Point being, I feel like it's my destiny to buy two of these. I'm not sure how I would use them, however I feel like the longer I delay, the longer I am putting off the inevitable.
Would purchasing a T50RP give me the "flavor" of the Mad Dogs, or does the Mad Dog sound like a completely different headphone?
The MD is a modded T50RP. That should explain it to you.

Yup, I also use a similar bag (cheapo from e-Bay!).
Also, I have one of those Beyerdynamic cases --> http://www.adorama.com/BDHDPC.html?gclid=CPP0oOHU4LQCFUid4AodOW4ANw
and they fit well too (I modified mine with padding on the top cover... lol.
Definitely very different. Stock T50RP just sound weird! Mid-centric but with distortion and resonance... bass is not as capable. I had the stock version and the Mad Dogs, definitely a difference! I was going to mod mine, but I wasn't kidding anyone, I don't have time for that type of project lol! So I ended up selling the stock ones.

Dollar vs sound quality, imho, you are not to get a better sounding closed headphone
Some say ,they approach, the lcd2's ,but ymmv,, ,also with the newer pads, are very comfortable
completely different
