I wonder if UM will fix their quality control and customer service issues with the release of this new iem. Svyr knows what I'm on about.
Sounds exciting though.

Wow, this seems like everything I want in one (two) product!
Time to start saving, can't wait!

Yep, that's going to be a key factor here. Easily as important as the quality of the Pure 6 system itself. Who wants to buy a potentially $2k rig from them if the service is not where it should be?
That said, I wonder if the design/testing/etc on this unit is somewhat related to the issues UM has been having. Depending on how many people they have employed in the lab, and what sort of development was involved, I can see that being a factor. I imagine it certainly didn't help.

I was told that UMLab basically said that they don't give a stuff if they get bad feedback on forums such as this. I can't say I like that complacent attitude.

they might as well throw a 32gb audio player in that box... or just a audio player with sdcard slot. IMO i think there going overboard with this project. I see this as big when it reveals itself, but then a month or so later someone like FiiO will make a 3rd the size DAC, activecrossover, CIEM thats just about the same quality but also at a 4th the price.

Gotta love UM ripping off JH!
This thing is certainly interesting. I would hope that the box will have knobs for bass and treble boost, and a switch for crossfeed. Also curious about the DAC section. If the iPad mini comes out in the next few months and this does too, with a camera kit and usb cable, that might be quite the semi-portable setup.
Still.. I don't think I could justify this purchase. I really like my standard passive x-over IEMs, and doubt the improvements would be worth an estimated $2,000 more... especially with the added stress of dealing with poor customer service.

Fii0 doesn't even make ciems.
How did you even think this could possibly happen?

FiiO may be popular for lower priced amps, but they have zero experience making custom IEMs. You might as well be saying that UM should flood the market with amps that sound better than the FiiO models - it's the same idea.
Each of these companies has their own specialty.
Adding a player into the box would probably make it overwhelmingly large. Have you see the size of the HM-801 or DX100?

Wait... how much are your current "standard passive x-over IEMs" if the Platform Pure 6 is $2K more than them?
What would potentially change or improve compared to the miracles ? Lets just say the new 6 BA CIEM is tuned like the miracle ? Instrumental seperation is already topnotch in my opinion.

@ Project86: I modded my es5s, which I found made an improvement but means that they now have little market value. Since I wouldn't be able to sell them to offset the estimated $2,000 cost of the Pure6, the improvement between my IEMs and the Pure6 would have to be a $2,000 improvement (damn near impossible, given diminishing returns).
Well that's just the thing - nobody knows how much of an improvement (if any) we will see in practice. Because you're right when you say that the Miracle/Merlin/plenty of other high end customs already sound fantastic.
The idea is the same as it is with active crossovers in speaker systems. Basically you've got the spectrum being separated into the appropriate range for each driver, maximizing clarity and minimizing any crossover induced distortion.
How will it play out in real life? Will it sound clearly better than a Miracle? Will the UM box, with it's all in one approach, be able to outperform a dedicated high end transport/DAC/amp setup? Only time will tell.

No they wont. They failed w/ the 24 bit DAP that strung us along for ages. Plus they can't, they don't know anything about the individual custom in question. They need to be mated as a system.
