TURNTABLE SETUP Questions thread - don't start a new thread, ASK YOUR QUESTION HERE! - Page 232

I've been thrilled with my Debut Carbon, got it used with the acrylic platter so can't comment on if the change is drastic but the Speed Box got rid of a surprising amount of background noise and as someone who has a fair amount of 12" 45s, the convenience is nice. With the Schiit Mani preamp and a well mastered record (no CD masters) the performance is about on par and sometimes more preferable than using my computer/Bifrost as the source. Obviously digital is more convenient and generally noise-free but some vinyl masters are just more enjoyable than the digital ones.

Then all you need is a turntable and a DAC.

As for the turntable, some of the most highly regarded currently manufactured turntables are made in the Czech Republic! They are sold under the Music Hall and Pro-Ject brands. Surely there is a way to buy these over there in the CR where they are made?

Thanks for recommendation, but I think we will stick to some Pro-Ject phono, which we can buy here.

I´m glad you know where the most turntables are made :) We don´t have problem with availability, there is so many turntables and no way to compare them objectively afaik..

People on czech audiophile forums are not very friendly nor helpful, cousin said :D

ostewart, thank you for mentioning Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, seems it is praised in this price category :)

Sorry, but can you explain to me why is the Speed Box necessary? I thought that Debut Carbon already works at 33/45 rpm.

Don´t tell me that this thing can sound better than Bifrost, I´m really looking forward to finally listen to some LP :)

Definitely not necessary, you can manually change the belt to get the same desired effect. The Speed Box acts as the power supply and after implementing it I noticed the low-end rumble-like noise was gone. I don't know the technical specifics of how it fixes noise issues, I just figured I'd try it and return it if I heard no difference.

The number one factor for making records sound better in my experience is cleaning them, biggest difference-maker for me. As well as the Onzow Zerodust stylus cleaner. The Zerodust cleans quicker and more effective than a brush and you can just wash it and use it forever, no fluid to buy. I got mine for around $20, essential for everyone who listens to vinyl. You'll be surprised how much gunk it takes off the stylus.
