Return To Forever's Romantic Warrior, man. The art was cool and the band is sublime

Seriously though you guys should really watch this. Put aside an hour plus or so maybe in the evening or morning.

Oye!  Not sure what to think about this movie, it was all over the place.  And why does he talk so much about having no girlfriend and wasting his life away?  Pretty down on himself.

It was sad to see the guy dump all those records in a dumpster.

You hear what he made the guy say? "Say it, 'I threw those records away because I know no one else will have them because I can't have them." or something like that.

Talking about issues...

How about the angry divorced guy with the white tee shirt and blue chair that blamed music for his failed marriage.

The mustached smoker who memorizes everything.  Obsessed Elvis fan...

That movie was weird, completely.  Yet I watched it all!  Made me feel good about myself!  biggrin.gif

Not to mention that dude sounds (and even looks somewhat) like Christian Bale's Joker.

Hi everybody,

I have never listen to a vinyl on a turntable but I have been dreaming about it for quite sometimes now. However, I have no idea where to start... I would like to get some advice on where to look for an "affordable" turntable (budget: right now the lower the better)

I wish to use it as a source to drive my WA6-SE. So where should I start?

Thanks everybody!

Thanks for the quick reply BLACKENEDPLAGUE! I was looking at two brands Rega and Pro-ject.

I am thinking about going for the rega RP3 or the Pro-ject debut carbon. Does anyone have tried these turntable?

I'd take an RP1 over the Carbon, TBH...so definitely an RP3 over the Carbon.

Too many things to consider when buying vinyl... Condition of jacket, sleeve, record. Label and even engineer. Been seeing stuff on RVG? and dont get me started on the music. lol

Yea I saw you raving about the Waltz for Debby. I will be adding it too my collection ASAP. Its pretty annoying seeing CDs even SACD so much cheaper than records though... like half as cheap.

Also I've read many times that new MFSL cuts are nicer than their old stuff. Generally when does this period of higher excellence begin? also why did this occur?

I especially like the Steve Hoffman cut of Waltz for Debby.

Recent MoFi is generally good though I find their early stuff to be slightly hit or miss.

I've recommended SH before and of course will mirror that recommendation. It's a good place to look if you go for speakers, too.

Noteable people to look for are names like Steve Hoffman, Kevin Gray, Bob Ludwig, and Bernie Grundman (you'll see a lot of stuff done at his studio).

Edit: I don't get people that buy stuff by people they wouldn't want to listen to. I understand collections but I take great pride in mine because it's all stuff I'd listen to.

Im no vinyl guru but isnt the price difference a little large?

Also I think it would be convenient if, in the original post, there was a entry level and mid level recommendation list for turntables, preamps and carts. I realized there are many many "good bang for buck" products out there but I still feel like something would be more helpful than anything. Also with price ranges maybe?

Most of my vinyl was bought new, strangely enough. I really hate buying used online. It's rough sometimes.

Sometime SACDs are even more though. It really depend on how many of each they did, IMO.

'New' MFSL is 2000 and on. They went bankrupt and were bought in 1999.

As for Waltz for Debby...Try to find an AP Steve Hoffman 45 cut...And when you give up on that pick up a Riverside cut or maybe this new DMM cut being released (you can preorder it now). They honestly all probably sound great, but the SH cut is the best to my ears. I have to find a copy soon myself, but I have a feeling the only way that will happen is to buy the $600 Bill Evans Box. Ouch.

Just asking around, can anyone share their views on Audio Technica AT120e cartridge in comparison with other carts? I'm game for a new cart, still weighing my choices.

AT make great entry level moving magnets , what is the rest of the system and budget ?

Turntable is a Marlux MX-86, AT51 cart, TCC TC-750 phono stage, Edifier R1900T3 2.0 active monitor speakers, and a headphone setup consisting of Aune T1 DAC+amp and Goldring DR150. Budget should be around $100-$150, also just now I came across some buzz about Denon DL110, googled around and found out how wonderful people say it is. Only problem is it is an MC cart, my phono is an MM, though some of them said it can be connected to an MM phono because this is a high output MC cart (?). That doesn't sound very proper.

I love how the setup is sounding, but I feel like having a bit of a change once in a while. Also considering the AT440mla as well.
