I have heard that just a handful of Sennheiser HD700s or HD800s headphones per thousand made need to go in for repair, outside of the cords, so I hope you do not have that issue, even if your headphones are in the warranty period.  Are you using the stock cords?

Since the issue was happening on my HD700s I switched to my HE-500s and started noticing the same issue on those as well. I requested a RMA from NCIX (where I bought my HD700s) and also sent an email to Jason from Schiit to see if he knows anything about this issue.

I will also pick up a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter for further testing on my MP3 player...hopefully some stores will bee open on Christmas =/

I'm seriously considering the HD700 under the recent drop in price considering I won't be able to afford the HD800 in a long while and specially now that they are retailing for $649 but can be obtained by $549. The thing is that I would prefer to wait at least one month but my fear is this price won't last that long...

What do you think guys? Should I get them now for $549 new? Or wait one month and try to get them slightly cheaper used.

I've heard (not confirmed) that the $650 MSRP and the $1350 MSRP for HD800 are holiday prices dictated by Sennheiser, and that it will go back up to $850/$1500 after the new year. Sennheiser price locks these so it will be hard to find it cheaper from an authorized dealer.

Of course you can always dream about the $890 HD800 sale happening again. :p

Thank you, I'm ordering right now. :P. If that sale happens again, I will play my cards to buy it.

You're not going to get the HD700s for 550$.

They've been sold out for awhile now.

I paid for a new on off amazon for 650$, which I already consider as an excellent deal.

And really, figuring the trend of the HD800, you should expect the HD700 to increase in price. It's not going to drop any lower.

Yeap, I already realized that... What a shame. Thank you anyway. I'm going to go with the price on Amazon. I think it's definitely worth it and, as you said, the price is only gonna go up.

I was going to try to buy like new but the increase in taxes makes it similar to the price for new ones.

EDIT:

Done. I couldn't resist the temptation... can't wait fur them to arrive.

I'm so happy I own these now. They just get more and more impressive the more time I spend with them. My poor HD 650 is collecting dust. I know the next logical step will be to upgrade to HD 800...but very I'm happy with these right now. HD 800 can wait till next Christmas. I think. :D

^ same story here. I sold my HD600s after they had collected enough dust. :) The HD800 however... every time I give them a try in the store, they sound 'dull' and 'sterile'. So looks like I won't upgrade anymore? :)

Really? What do they have the HD 800 running on? Because every time I've heard them at meets they sound outstanding. Definitely not dull.

^ Lehmann Rhinelander is the only amp they have. I do want to listen to them on different amps for sure.

While I do like my HD700s, I listened both HD800 & HD700 on the dedicated HDVD800 Sennheiser amp in a shop couple of days ago and honnestly there was a big difference , HD800 impressed me a lot!

I have to say that I prefered my very modest combo (HRT microstreamer+O2) vs HDVD800 on the 700s though (more dynamic) :confused_face_2:
