Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread - Page 180

So my WA7d and WA7tp came today. I've only had it for about an 1hr so far but I am going to have to say that I am really bloody impressed at the moment. Everything sounds so good!!! I really like how the treble has been tamed ALOT. I'm keen for the tubes to burn in more but I'm really enjoying it at the moment. Well worth the purchase :D

The impedance of the HD700 is quite a bit lower than the HD600/650 so would it be safe to assume that an amp that would be good for those two phones would not be good for the 700. Having said that any good suggestions on an 'above average' amplifier for the HD700 that doesn't cost a small fortune, say in th 250-$500 range?

Looking at the Sennheiser HD 700 as an upgrade from my AKG K712 Pro's. I was wondering if you guys can answer a few questions for me:

1. Are the HD700's 270g's or 408g's? The amazon site shows it being 14.4 oz = 408 grams, and sennheiser official site shows 270g's. This is important as I cannot wear anything over ~300g's over my head without feeling strain for long periods.

2. Has anyone made a comparison of the HD700's to AKG K712's (or the K702 65th Annie's)? In terms of bass, treble, and soundstage mainly.

Thanks :)

I am interested in this as well as I am looking to add a K712 to my collection as I already own a 700.

I use a Meier Audio Stepdance. It's successor Quickstep is even a little better. Running on low gain at 2:30 from Ipod Classic (EU version) LOD. One of the best portable amps out there for a reasonable price.

I know, I was just poking a little fun at your vintage love :D

1. Just measures my HD700 on my coffee scale. If I throw the whole thing on there I get about 390g (cable and all). But if I rest the cable off the scale I get 290g. Unfortunately, a bit of a judgement call

2. I'll try to do a comparison in the next few days. Just got my UERM, so my ears are gonna stay plugged for awhile :D. Off the top of my head, they are pretty different headphones.

Sorry, l didn't feel like removing the cables (yes, l'm lazy), but those 292grs l got on my scale are closer to the Sennheiser official site than to what amazon says. lf you want to exactly know how much they weight (on my kitchen-scale), let me know.

l can't help you with your 2nd question, l'm afraid...

Thanks for the weights, I ended up ordering one from amazon to compare to the K712, and will be returning one of them to amazon at the end of the month.

As far as amps go, I'm currently using the STX II sound card, which many have compared to the Schiit stack in terms of sound quality. How will this serve the 700's? It works amazingly well with the K712. Am I not to get the full scale of the 700 unless I get a Lyr 2 or a Valhalla 2?

I have the Q701's and the difference between this and HD700 is approx. 34grams, according to specs on the interweb. I can't tell the difference considering how heavy my head is already.

I have the WA7, and I think the HD700 has a wider soundstage and is a brighter headphone, with a more extended bass. The tubes help with the brightness.
