So the HD700 is actually a more linear upgrade, though you need a heavier amp for it.
The HD650 is half upgrade, half give and take thing

Thanks for that input.

If I can ask, if you had the choice would you prefer to have both the HD598 and HD650 for diff signatures or just the HD700?

If anyone is willing to trade an HD700 for my Beyer T90 please message me. I have a T90 up in the for sale forum with pics.

At the rate I am going I am going to have all 5, HD580, 600, 650, 700, 800. Partially solved by giving my 580 to my wife, still maybe a bit much.

You just start buying Sennhieser's and the next thing you know there are all these headphones laying all over the place. I think the elves bring them at night while I am asleep.

Thanks. I have no problem springing for the HD650 at a later point. Although I'm now trying to investigate a portable full sized closed can under $400 that would perhaps provide a different signature. That may suffice for now in place of the 650.

Anyone try the Vali with the HD700? I've searched a bit but haven't found much info. I was thinking the Vali's warmth could help balance out the HD700? Although someone said it wouldn't pair well with the 598 so since the 700s have a similar sound, I'm wondering if that wouldn't work either?

Or is the Magni a better option (just thought that may spike the treble even more?).

I could go Valhalla if I have to but if there's not a real reason to, I'd prefer to try the Vali until I get more familiar with what I want/need in the long term when I'd be willing to spend more.

I have the Magni and it is a little spiky in treble. But it could also be the limitation of my source files. Some are not that great. The FLACs I am playing sound really great. I use the EQ on some of the poorer files and all seems to work out. But I like the bright sound, so I am biased.

If you guys get a chance to try the HD700 out of a vintage amplifier/receiver, I think you'll be blown away.

Coming from a Denon D7000/Fostex TH900 type of sound signature preference, you might think a HD700 would disappoint in the bass response...............nope.

Well, just want to pop in and say hi, just got a new HD700 in on a hell of a deal.  I haven't started any kind of burn in process, but initial listening has put a huge smile on my face, the one that comes from knowing you're going to be happy with this relationship.  I've enjoyed a few headphones, but this one created excitement putting them on.  It reminds me of the first time I tried out the HD 558... my eyes closed, I listened to the music, and before I knew it I was smiling.  Sadly never ended up buying the HD558, got the 598 instead, which never managed to get that same reaction out of me.

I have the feeling I'm going to be neglecting a lot of hardware from this point on.
